In August 2001, Asha’s bookbag with all of her belongings was found at construction site 26 miles north of Shelby. This is a clear indication that she was abducted. A nine-year-old girl would not be able to walk 26 miles up the road on her own. In addition, numerous reports that she was heading southbound the night she left her house. Therefore, some child predator must have picked her up and dropped off her belongings elsewhere to cover up their foul play. The FBI reports that eyewitness accounts show that Asha Degree potentially got into a “distinctive vehicle” on N.C. 18. “The car is described as an early 1970s Lincoln Mark IV or possibly a Ford Thunderbird, dark green, with rust around the wheel wells.” The Charlotte Observer. With the FBI claiming that she was likely abducted with this vehicle gives more credibility to the abduction theory.
