Abstract Imaginative Drawings

July 2024

Vine charcoal, compressed charcoal, black conte crayon on Stonehenge paper.

These two abstract pieces were done blindfolded, using our senses and feeling rhythm in order to make the art.

The first of the two pieces was done while an assortment of the class’ favorite songs were playing. We were blindfolded in a dark room and given directions to either turn our paper, use a different medium, or use an eraser. We were tasked with feeling the rhythm of the music in order to create patterns, shapes, and lines that match our movements to the music.

The second piece was done also blindfolded in a dark room, but we were read a story-like poem, with the option to choose different “routes” to take that would affect how our piece turned out, like turning the paper once or twice for whichever option we chose.

After we were done with the blindfolded portion of the art, we looked at our art and used the already existing shapes and lines to create a piece with dimension, good composition, and many other different techniques that we explored before the start of the pieces.
