Prevalence of Bipolar Disorder

Demographics of Bipolar Disorder

Nowadays, many people prefer cases that involve supernatural and murder to accidental death or suicide. This preference is one of the reasons why people do not agree with the current conclusion, which is “accident”, from the police. Specifically, in the case of Elisa Lam, people simply feel that a murder or supernatural case is more interesting and disregard how strong the effects of bipolar disorder could be. It is possible that people three years ago had less awareness of bipolar disorder. However, as I mentioned on the previous page, currently “one in five patients with bipolar disorder completes suicide” (DBSA). If we don’t acknowledge and admit the danger of bipolar disorder, the suicide rate among patients suffered from bipolar disorder will never decrease.

Let’s look at a statistic done by National Institutes of Health, “2.6% of U.S. adult population is experiencing bipolar disorder, and 82.9% of these cases are classified as ‘severe’”. We should all pay close attention to this seriousness of bipolar disorder and be aware of the symptoms of it. Being aware of the bipolar disorder is the best way to help people who are suffering from it.
