As an educator, advisor/mentor, and program coordinator, I believe learners possess an inherent curiosity about the external world around them. Learners develop fundamental knowledge constructs by actively asking questions and testing hypotheses about the external world (the “process of inquiry”). Learners are also dynamic individuals who are proactive, agentic, and self-reflective in their knowledge construction. My responsibility is to support, challenge, and guide my students and advisees/mentees, encouraging them to explore, reflect, and develop a deep understanding of themselves in relation to the external world.
As an experienced educator in clinical rehabilitation and mental health counseling, I have taught extensively at both the master’s and doctoral levels. My teaching philosophy emphasizes constructivist pedagogy and evidence-based practices while adhering to the rigorous curriculum standards established by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
Throughout my academic career, I have focused on developing well-rounded practitioners by integrating current research, clinical best practices, and ethical considerations into my courses. This comprehensive approach ensures that students graduate with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for success in their chosen fields. My commitment to maintaining professional standards helps prepare students for licensure and certification while fostering their development as competent, ethical mental health professionals who can serve diverse populations effectively.
