Into the Book-Verse

One of the few excerpts I read while beginning for my adventure.

Reading to me is like going on an adventure to places I could only play in my head or to visit the past and listen to what happened and the overall experience that came in soon afterward. But when I was 12 and a bit younger, I never liked going on an adventure. I was too focused on playing video games because it has always been my favorite pastime. But when I was in middle school, I was forced to change how I would spend my school nights. That was when I began to visit the library and rent a book for two weeks.

I could say that I was well adapted to the stories I have read very quickly. I read a book about a serial killer terrorizing a town and a twelve-year boy who couldn’t read and was Italian (those were the only things I remember about him) had to go solve the mystery behind it. When I read them, sometimes I can’t tell what is going on but still continue to read. I couldn’t take my mind off of the book even when trying to sleep, wanting to know what comes next. It’s like some sort of addiction that I picked up because I tried something new, like taking a drug for the first time because you found a new way to become the coolest kid on the block (until you realized how much of a bad move it was). And when I finished, I suddenly had the urge to crave for more.

Finding this newfound interest, I was easily getting into the stories for each book. There was once a boy whose family housed someone for I can’t remember how long, so he and his delinquent friend of his named Mario tried to figure out who he is, all the while getting into mischief. I had fun telling these stories to my mom, who would question me about them. But it wasn’t like I was forced to read or to be lie about what I read, but because it felt like I was viewing them from above. The more I read, the more of my understanding of the story I got. It had the effect of improving how I wrote because I was inspired by the authors I had the honor of reading their work. I even took notice on how the stories would be written, specifically the ones that are more of a personal story, and from there I understood where they come from. Even though those stories could either be things I would never use in my life and things that would never exist and are mostly coming from the past, I got things that I could use to prepare for what’s next. Thank the Lords that the moment happened, because sí certainly wouldn’t be doing this now.
