Haters gonna hate

Memes have become a way to mock and tease at human behavior with the intention of being funny and bringing humor. Memes are quick to travel from person to person, and from social media platform to platform, they are easily recognizable and infectious. This first meme is of former president Barack Obama with the caption “Haters Gonna Hate”. Obama tended to be ridiculed for his performance as president despite his efforts, but as the image shows his careless face and smirk it insinuates that “Haters Gonna Hate” and it does not bother him.

This next meme is of Tom Brady, it contains the same caption as the first. Tom Brady has also been ridiculed for his actions during his suspension and investigation of using a deflated football, although he continuesly proves himself as one of the greatest to play. This meme depicts Brady as carefree and happy, along with the caption “Haters Gonna Hate” because he clearly know how good he is.

This next meme is of Michael Jordan, flaunting his championship rings. There has been a lot of debate and comparison towards Michael Jordan, with many people challenging his “greatest NBA player” status. This image depicts Jordan as someone who is confident in their ability and could not care less what haters have to say, thus the “Haters Gonna Hate” captions allows for that humorous connection to be made.

Perceptions Of Space

The reassuring and welcoming nod one receives from the 3 security guards standing post at Georgia State’s University Library is the first thing you see as you walk in. A variety of male and female security guards allows one to feel safe as you walk into the library, given the location’s reputation of robberies and muggings nearby. As you walk in, the crisp and cold breeze immediately blows at you, almost discouraging you from entering. But as you progress, the wind softens and soon you are enveloped in the air’s warm welcome. As you look down, you see the ground covered in a neutral colored carpet, looking soft enough to do backstands on it. Directly to you right is where the security guards congregate around their desk, keeping up with their daily officer duties. To the right of the security desk are the bathrooms, elevators, and exit doors, equipped with metal detectors. These areas can get especially busy crowded considering all the people going back and forth through these areas. As you make your way towards the huge pair of stairs right in the middle, one can simply not notice the main attractions to the left. For example, Saxby’s, the beloved coffee/sandwhich/ pastry shop, equipped with enough food to last many for days. One can almost always smell the coffee grinds and hear the cacophonous roars of the blenders as one takes a step. Freshmen student, Kala Welcher, states that her favorite floor is on “the first floor because of Saxby’s.” The long, seemingly never moving line at Saxby’s consists of a light skinned girl rapidly typing away on Merid 12 of 3 her phone’s keyboard and an elderly man impatiently tapping his foot are just a few of the characters one many spot at Georgia State’s University Library. Directly in front of Saxby’s is where the real action happens. Desks as far as the eye can see, completely covered in various members connected to Georgia State, one way or the other. Groups of boys and girls clamoring around to cram weeks worth of education before their impending exam. A reception desk directly to the right of the chaos, students desperately wait in line to get aid with whatever they wish. 3 or less faculty members behind the desk eagerly wait to help people in need. Printers are available directly to the left of the staircase, to students willing to pay. A girl with a darker complexion worries she might not be able to complete her assignment because the computers are acting up again. A boy dressed in athletic wear and a GSU ID badge hanging around his neck begins to panic as he can’t seem to get his login correct. Just to the left of this area are several study rooms, equipped with a whiteboard and a flat screen. Behind the huge staircase in the middle of the floor are the multiple desks with students at every other desk. Where students go to eat their Saxby’s meal, plug and charge their computers/phones, or just simply chat with some acquaintances. In the far right corner of the floor are the shelves of magazines and newspapers dating back to impressively far dates and includes the most recent editions as well. This area is so frequently updated, one can always read up on current events. The first floor, considered the heart of the library, has dozens of students with different background stories all coming together for the same thing: to gain more knowledge about the world. At Georgia’s State’s Library, as you go up, the quieter it gets. So if one really chooses to be surrounded with his thoughts and his thoughts only, just go up a few floors! As one finally makes it’s way towards the exit of the building, you appreciate the resources the Library offers.

Library again

3o6ztgzclfvaekigomFor those avid subscribers to my blog post, it is a few days into the future but the temperament of the weather is all but unfamiliar. Changing from the blazing sunny days and clear skies of the summer, the Georgia State campus now begins to have a transition from tank tops to light jackets. The cool breeze that was once so inviting now begins to give students and staff a like goosebumps as they stand loitering the outside of the library and campus plaza outside the doors where the students congregate.

Making the 2nd journey whilst listening to my life’s soundtrack, eye of the tiger in the background , I arrive as the song ends to the door that holds not only textbooks and information but my grade hand in hand.  Making it past the usual checkpoint inside the library, I am graced with the usual ensemble of chairs and computers prepared by the school. T0 my far left upon closer inspection I somehow managed to finally notice the all but convenient coffee shop installed in the library for hungry college students or patrons alike needing a snack or break after studying rigorously. Walking towards the left side of the library where the shop is situated, I glance inside to see the store laid out in a manner that invites the potential patron further inside the shop to see what it has to offer. A technique employed by many different chains to that innocently drags in the customer to get a good view . With sofas and other furniture in place, the intentions of the little shop is to have you not only comfortable but to stay as long as possible.

Moving away from the entrance of the coffee shop and onto greater things I decide to go site see the various other installations that I had somehow seemingly missed before and start where I usually do which is at the computers. Aside from the cubicles of computers set up on the left side of the campus library, huge rooms that are dimly lit are vacant,  with blue monitors lit up, the numbers amount to the a sizeable sum that could fit up to more than 20 or 30 people at a time but remain ever so empty. Moving on to the the deeper end of the library I find an empty white desk near the window that has a view of the Classroom South. Sitting down with sunlight against my back and a newfound glare on any electronic that I bring out I begin to examine different technical aspects of the library and color scheme of the almost seemingly green library couches and chairs placed around and about. With work centered around the computers and tables near the back of the library, places such as the U shaped desk are reserved for the larger assembly of friends looking to “work” on group projects or assignments.

After finally finishing my last scan over the provided amenities of the library I focus my attention to the upper deck of the library. Making my up the stairs, becoming a little bit more distant from the first floor, I am welcomed by a new tone on the second floor. The second floor unlike the first was built with windows around and about and I was hit by natural light that came through the gigantic windows that linked that north and south buildings. Walking towards an unfamiliar face waiting outside a room, I’m greet by an asian girl that goes by the name Jenny Do. She’s waiting on her reservation for a room that she had reserved prior to coming here. After some back and forth dialogue I can make the connection that the floor above the first has an unspoken rule of high work ethic that requires a piece of concentration and want and need to feel somewhat detached and separated to focus on their task at hand. Looking into the room past the Jenny I can definitely sense the potential work that could be achieved if both body and mind are allowed in room where there’s nothing but you a desk and a giant monitor. Ending our conversation as soon as her time starts I end my task at hand there and begin to walk back towards the entrance making my way past the the ensemble of heads glued to monitors and assignments.

Team Nissan

2017-nissan-gt-r-front-three-quarter-11

The big Nissan logo was the first thing I saw when I first enter their driveway. There were a lot of expensive cars in the front of the shop. I can see three 2015 GTRs and two G37s lined up at the front of the shop. The further down I looked, the cars start to look worst and worst. The middle cars were filled with Maximas and Altimas, although they look nice. They are nothing compared to the cars in the front. All the way in back of the dealership, there were cars that looked damaged and rusted. I walked towards the Nissan dealership and noticed that the walls for made completely of glass. The glass was very well maintained. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a dealer. The inside of the dealership had two of the most expensive and the best-looking cars. The two cars were parked across each other pointing diagonally towards each other. The one on the left is a brand new 2017 orange Nissan GTR, and the one on the right was a new gun metal grey Nissan 370z. The top of both the cars had headlights that shine on the cars. While the rest of the dealership was dimmed. There is tall counter near the conference room. The dealers all have their own personal room. There are only four chairs inside the building. Only two people sat inside while eight sat outside. It was dead silent inside the dealership except for the business talk. Outside, it was a lot louder and felt less restrictive.

The giant Nissan logo was probably used to inform people about the dealership. It let people know that this is a Nissan dealership. The beautiful sports cars in the front are used to catch the interest of the consumer. They were very persuasive without being able to say anything. The mid-range budget cars being in the middle made the dealership look bigger. That they have a lot asset at their disposal, and make you feel like they have what you’re looking for. The ugly cars in the back might have been traded in cars. The old cars from people who have purchased from that dealership before. Judging by the sheer amount of old cars, the dealership looked like they get a lot of business. The glass walls allow people to easily see the inside of the dealership. The inside was beautiful and they wanted people to know that. There was little sitting room inside compared to outside. The low amount of chairs forced big families or groups to sit outside. The inside was only filled with people who came alone. That also made the inside atmosphere super silent. No one ever talked inside, even when they do. It is usually only whispers. The dealer’s personal room gave shoppers a sense of privacy. They know that other people can’t hear their financial situation.

There were only two people sat inside. One was a middle-aged lady. She had blonde hair and looked wealthy. She sat alone and used her phone until they called her name. The other person was a very old lady. She looked like she was in her sixties. Her hair was almost completely white. Her skin was the color of snow. She was there for the 2015 Nissan GTR. She really wanted it and she showed that by making a bunch of phone calls to make sure the price was right. She was only there for about an hour and a half.  The dealers were all wearing a navy blue suit. They all matched except for the manager which wore a black suit. John, one of the dealer was walking around a lot. He was the one pulling up all the cars for the customer to see. He looked twenty with black hair and dark skin. He looked happy and joyful so he was probably new there.

The dealers were there for their job. The manager was only there every now and then. He constantly left to go somewhere. He came to check on the dealership to see if it was running smoothly. The old white lady was there for her 2015 GTR. The young wealthy lady came there to look at possible cars that she might like. She looked at eight different cars and left without buying. The family outside the dealership sitting on the bench could be waiting for their turn. They were a difference race so they couldn’t have been waiting for one of the ladies inside.

Living area

common4

The living area in the dorm is where everyone socializes. In the space is a laundry room with two chairs and a table. In the common area there is a big white table in the middle of the forum. There are also three big blue comfy chairs that sit against the window. Lastly there is a big flat screen tv that sits on a orange wall in between the big white table and the three chairs.

The laundry room is where everyone goes to wash their clothes. The chairs in the laundry room are for people to sit while their clothes are washing. The big white table in the common area is beneficial because it is where people sit to socialize and do homework. People are also able to write on the big white table with dry erase markers. The three big comfy chairs are set to keep residents comfortable as they socialize and watch television. Most important is the big television, it is used as entertainment and brings residents closer through different shows.

People who are in this are students and the RA who is on duty. Most of the people who are in this space are very talkative. The people who are speaking are talking about special events going on within the school. Other occupants are quiet completely homework. Residents are constantly walking around going to different floors and exploring the dorms.

The people that occupy this space are either here to socialize, get work done or was their clothes. There are kind people helping others with homework if needed. Other occupants are there to meet new people.

East Wave

spacespace-2
There are two doors, one for the entrance and one for the exit. An open sign is hanged outside the opened entrance door. A humongous menu board can be seen and  a little small ones are handed to you from the employees. There are bright colored furniture and a neon colored wall with a painting of street names in Chinese and an image of a gate. There are multiple TV screens hanging on the ceiling from the dinning area. There is a station next to the exit door, where you can put trash and other waste in.

The open sign and the opened door, tells us that this place are welcoming in customers. The open door also tells you that you are suppose to go in that restaurant instead of the neighboring franchise. The large hanging menu broad shows the customers that those items are what is available in the restaurant and you can only choose from what is provided. The restaurant has a railing that leads them to the other side where customers are suppose to eat in. The orange chairs and seats tell the customers that they will seat only in these certain areas. The buzzer are a guide for paying customers to know that they food are served and ready to be eaten. The multiple TV screens encourage people to eat distractedly, where they can eat more and more without knowing it. The large neon background is decorated in a way that would attract the customers and showing off the street names in Chinese is another way of embracing East Wave’s full name, East Wave Asian Fusion. The whole restaurant is very modern which many people would lean toward too just because it is clean and it fits in today’s expectations of an Asian restaurant. Theses objects are set up in a way that would surround the occupants in a modern and clean environment, letting the customers know that they should be behaved and civilized and that they should keep the place clean.

Greeted by the bright open sign and open doors, paying customers are automatically greeted by the co-ed employers. The scent of bubble tea drinks, mix with Asian food smell fills the restaurant. Popular music hits can be heard throughout the restaurant. Upon walking in, customers can see a massive board, hanging from the ceiling, or they can walk up to the counter and grab a smaller version of the menu.  If they are clueless about what to get, East Wave employers will help you choose: from their Kiwi fruit teas with the lychee jelly and kiwi pieces to BBQ Pork Baos. After ordering, customers are directed to grab a buzzer. After attaining the buzzer, customers can find a seat anywhere they would like. Walking to the left, customers can see bright neon color background, with street names from China and a little gate on the wall. Looking around they can see the white tables with orange chairs. The orange chairs are extra soft and comfortable. Additionally, on the wall opposite from the exit door, there are multiple TV screens showing many sports channels and family friendly shows. Once finding a good comfy seat with a view of one of the TV, the buzzer will soon go off, meaning your food is ready. After obtaining your food and a comfy seat, customers often pull out a book to read, do homework assignments, talk to a friend, or talk/play on their phone.

People who are middle class and GSU students fill this space. One of the reason why is because the food is relatively cheap and the workers are really nice. Most people choose to come here because of the food, the price, and the environment. The environment itself is very inviting. This is why people with families and friends come here a lot. This is also a safe environment where the police guard heavily, so people are not intimated of going here.

Suwanee Park

cityservices-recreationparks-intro

Walking on the paved pathway at Suwanee Park, I notice various art pieces; statues, a chunk of a burnt piece from one of the twin towers and masterful paintings on sections of the concrete sidewalks. People are either walking their dogs, keeping their children company as they ride their little vehicles, playing football or frisbee in the wide, wide fields, or sitting down in the grass enjoying a meal they got from one of the restaurants across the road. The fountain is on as usual and the sound of the water splattering on the ground gets louder as I approach it. Tired of walking, I settle myself on one of the stairs on the stage that’s placed in front of the park. From where I sit, the sound of life is amplified with the screams and laughter of children, cars zooming, and dogs barking.

I continue looking at the art pieces in the park–it is clearly there to make the park more interesting: to give it more color. The long sidewalks are paved all across the park, making people more spread out as they walk and allowing them to see the view of the park in every perspective possible. The fountain draws the visitors in the daytime to drench themselves in the cool water to have fun and refresh themselves at the same time. Meanwhile at night, people are drawn to the fountain to admire the beautiful colors the fountain shoots up. The large lawns control the way people occupy the space depending on the size; sports or relaxation. The restaurants on located for the people to visit once they become famished after having too much fun. As for the stage, it is there for special occasions to entertain the people at the park.

I realized that the majority of the people at the park were athletic. I noticed that many of the people walked faster than I did. I concluded that they are active or that I am just a slow walker. The people who were walking their dogs and playing sports were in clothes meant for exercise. Many were tan, meaning that those people were the type to go outside. Most of the occupants were not alone–they had the company of their family or friends.

Diversity screamed across the Park. Many seemed friendly as they passed by with smiles or approached stranger’s dogs and engaged in conversation. A friendly community gives everyone a sense of safely and makes a great place to hang out. The Park is also local. People driving by can take a minute to take in the pleasing sight as they wait for the stoplight to turn green. I always consider visiting the Park when I am in this position.

Mall of Georgia’s Food Court

         Mall of Georgia

Standing above the crowd in the Mall of Georgia’s Food Court, I see endless rows of tables and chairs for people to take a seat. Plopped straight in the middle is a water fountain. Encircling the food court from left to right is fast food restaurants of vast varieties, including Taco Bell, Checkers, and many more. And at the very top of the food court is the main entrance of the mall. Swarms of people are constantly passing through the food court the whole time.

The restaurants, tables, and chairs occupy the majority of the space which are there to attract people to the food court. The restaurants want the people to buy their food. The tables and chairs  are for the people to settle their belongings and for the people to rest themselves. As people pass by, some stop to toss a coin in the water fountain for some good luck or a wish.

The people in the space are either passing through, stopping by to have a meal, or sitting as they wait. The people who are just passing by are either in a rush or just nonchalantly walking; they come and leave through the automatic sliding doors at the main entrance of the mall. Some of the people getting food are standing in front of the fast food restaurants trying to decide what they want to eat or are in lane to order and pay for their food.

There isn’t a certain type of person who occupy the space. The people are diverse and are there for different reasons. They range from groups, couples, or to just a party of one. Usually, these people come to the food court after they’ve finished shopping, watching a movie, or they’ve come to find something to eat.

My Space

As I pull the door open to enter my space a blast of cold air hits my face. The smell of thin plastics hit my nostrils as I look upon the unopened games. The walls are filled with posters and advertisements for upcoming games. The floors are lined with flat red carpet making it comfortable to get low to search for more things. The dimness of the lights and lack of sunlight makes me feel at home. The lack of customers makes me feel at home and calm. I walk around staring at everything and touching everything that isn’t locked up behind glass.  The one employee converses with me about the games in the store and which ones he wants to play. As I exit my space the sun hits me and I feel empty having left with nothing.
