General Application Process
For students seeking an internship within the English Department, with another GSU program or initiative, or with a standing community partner.
Requirements
If you have not already secured an internship placement and would like to be considered for one of our in-house internship opportunities or for a placement with one of our ongoing community partners, you should consult the list of available placements on the department’s website and prepare a general application that contains the following 2 documents:
- an application letter/letter of intent (1 page) stating the nature of your interest in an internship, your desire to be considered for 1-3 specific opportunities on the list, any particular skills or experience you would bring to this internship, and any skills or experience you are hoping to gain from your placement; and
- an updated resume (1 page) including any relevant coursework you have completed (i.e. any courses on the Professional Writing & Editing track) and any relevant work experience you might have.
Some community partners may require additional documents, background checks, and/or expect you to interview for your position, especially if you are applying for a paid internship. Be careful to submit all of the requested materials for the position(s) you are hoping to secure, and be prepared to undergo an interview process if necessary.
Because multiple students will be interested in the same opportunities, it’s best to specify a first and second (and maybe even a third) choice of internship placement in your application letter. You must be willing to accept any of the placements you specify in your application materials.
