The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of trying to get all the snapshots in so that the committee can review them and decide which parks they want to move forward with in the grant application process. I was pretty shocked at how although the work that I was doing seemed like nothing monumental, influential members of Atlanta would come across these snapshots in some way or another. Although I knew none of the committee members were necessarily going to analyze every aspect of my work, I still made sure that the snapshots were something that I could continue to be proud of. This idea seems obvious or basic information, but I’ve been trying to keep this thought in mind when working on personal projects as well as other school assignments.
I also had the opportunity to go to the Parks for All Party where I got to meet some of the board members and other important people of Atlanta. It was pretty surreal to be in the same room as some people who make Atlanta the city that it is! Overall, the actual event was fun and pretty chill, at least from my position, and I got to be able to meet with other employees of Park Pride and learn about the work that they do. The event was also an opportunity for different representatives of the parks, who are applying for grants, to meet with and “rub elbows” with board members and Park Pride members.
Currently, I’m moving on to my next project and working on taking down past grant cycle information from the Park Pride website and archiving it so that we can put the new information on there. Many of the tasks that I do don’t seem that exciting to most people, but I’ve been enjoying the process and understanding that the work that I’m doing does have an impact, however small it may be.
I was also recently informed that I would be able to stick around with Park Pride for a little while past my contract to work on additional projects including putting together an info toolkit for Friends and community members of the parks. I’m excited to take on more work, although it’s been a process to stay organized and manage my time properly, I’m eager to gain more skills that I believe are applicable to what I want to do as a career.
