Today was my last time attending my internship for Five Points. As we finish out the semester, I can confidently say that my Five Points internship has taught me a great deal about the publication industry and acquisition editing. I have learned a lot about who I am as an editor and who I am as a writer.
It was wonderful seeing the ups and downs of different pieces of writing and getting to work closely with Dr. Sexton on pieces that were up for consideration. Though there were times when it was difficult for me to judge pieces, I think this internship has been a great success at showcasing my weaknesses and strengths within acquisition editing.
Though I have not completely decided which area of publishing I would like to go into career-wise, I think this internship has been extremely helpful in giving me a taste of the publishing world. This internship has allowed me to understand the writing community better, as well as the publishing industry. I hope to bring all of my experiences into my career after I graduate. It has been a great semester, but I will miss working closely with Dr. Sexton and the Five Points Journal!
