Disney is definitely my favorite – as squeaky clean as their versions of fairy tales might be, I can’t help but love them. I guess I’ve been thoroughly brainwashed :). It’s also great fun to pick apart their very ridiculous gender roles and questionable morals.
It’s really a close call but I’m going to have to say Dreamworks. While Disney will always hold a special place in my heart, I think what has me coming back to those stories is nostalgia. Time and again I have rewatched a Disney movie and was disappointed because it wasn’t as good as I remember it. On the other hand, whenever I revisit the Dreamworks movies after years, the story are usually as good as I remember. I think this is the result from Dreamworks making movies for families with stories that remain enjoyably regardless of age. Also some of Disney’s older stuff can come off as…
lets just say they honestly reflect their times.
I would have to go with Disney. My favorite fairy tale remake is The Princess and the Frog. The story has a great meaning for girls. Tiana the main character worked hard to open up her own restaurant. Even though she got the prince, she still kept her goals. I think it is an excellent spin on The Frog Prince.
I guess I’m a Dreamworks fan as well! The Disney stuff seems a little too impossible to me (but hey Dreamworks is pretty fake also)!
Even though I do love some of the movies from Dreamworks, between the two I would have to pick Disney. Dreamworks have made more silly and wild content in their films, which is what I like in animated films, than Disney. That have for the most part usually plays it safe with more conservative content in their movies. Yet I still have to side with them for being more consistent throughout the years. They had an awesome run of three films from ’96 to ’98 with The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, and Mulan. Which are some of my favorite animated films to watch so ultimately Disney has to be my pick.
I would have to go with Disney, mostly for sentimental reasons. It was such a part of my childhood, and growing up all I really watched were the classic Disney movies. DreamWorks didn’t come around until later, and while I really enjoy most of their movies, I find they don’t have the same heartfelt storylines that Disney has to offer. maybe it’s because they want to seem more realistic, I’m not sure. A lot of the DreamWorks movies have more adult jokes and references that kids just don’t get (nor should they).
