For the Armor project, we had to construct a costume that would act as armor against a social problem that bothers us. We needed to make three pieces that will provide some type of meaning about the social ill whether that be to bring healing, touch on a possible solution, or inform.
Approaching this project took a lot of research and thoughtful brainstorming. I decided to begin my project by doing that and narrowing down my focus to one topic which was bringing light to standardized testing and how it can limit students who have learning disabilities. I then began sketching out ideas of imagery that will highlight this social issue. After that, I assessed what materials I would need and started crafting my armor. This took a lot of trial and error, especially in the design aspect. Because my armor has a theme of nature and growth to connect to learning and wisdom, I had to figure out a way to incorporate that into my project. I did this by adding floral decals and branches to represent the healing by using construction paper and other materials I had leftover from other holidays.
