Subtractive sculpture.

The works of Carol Crawford inspired this piece. Carol is an artist who works with slabs of marble that she carefully carves and sands into round shapes. I wanted to create an organic nearly lifelike form out of the hard and brittle florist foam that we were given for this project. My intent was for the final piece to look heavy and smooth, the exact opposite of the characteristics of the foam. I wanted the viewer to wonder what it was made of and to assume that it was made out of a soft material like clay.
