Activity 4-assignment 2

www.justfacts.com

Currency: The site seems to be very current. At the bottom of the page it has “Copyright 2016” which leads me to believe it is updated regularly. After skimming through the articles, I noticed most of them have been published within the last year.

Relevance: It seems anyone looking for statistical and factual information concerning current issues would benefit greatly from this site.

Authority: The “.com” at the end of the URL tells us that anyone could have produced this site. However, the layout and grammar looks very professional.

Accuracy: The site does have citations for their sources, which leads me to believe that it is an accurate site.

Purpose: I believe the purpose of this site is to inform the public on different social issues. The site tends to only provide statistics and facts on each subject; allowing the individual to come to their own conclusion on what they believe is right.

Currency: This site also seems very up to date. It has “Copyright 2016” at the bottom of the site and the articles listed on the main page are updated almost daily.

Relevance: I am not exactly sure this site looks completely reliable in terms of the information it is sharing. Depending on what you are researching, this site could be helpful, but not incredibly. The site conveniently has tags at the bottom of their articles making it easier to find this page when researching a topic. It can also tell you what the main focus of the article will be .

Authority: The “.org” at the end of the URL is similar to “.com” mentioned before. Just about anyone could have purchased and created this site, so the authority is not established as reliable just yet. It does say it is sponsored by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, which sounds more reliable. However, I am not familiar with the Annenberg center.

Accuracy: I could not find sources on this site, but after reading their privacy settings; it appears that the majority, if not all, of the articles are written by the sites employees.

Purpose: The purpose seems to be informing readers on current issues, more specifically with the presidential candidates. The articles also seemed to have the author’s personal bias within, offering a tad more than factual information concerning each topic. There are lots of advertisements on the site as well which leads me to believe the site is interested in earning revenue.

While looking up eating disorders and dancers, it appears that all six of the different search engines came up with basically the same top five results. They would sometimes come up in a different order, but usually the top two would remain the same for every engine. I cannot say I noticed enough differences to comment.

Tips for Success

Here are 3 tips I have to be successful in an online course.

  1. Schedule the time you will devote to your class every week and write it down.
  2. Make a list of the weekly tasks and cross them off as you complete them.
  3. Minimize distractions wherever/whenever you go to complete your tasks.

You have to lead an online presentation on the contents of your history term paper.

Wordle Wordle can give you an idea on the focus of your paper. You will know how prominent each topic is in your essay and therefore what your presentation should focus on.

The final exam for your economics course is coming up, and you need to collect all of your (and hopefully your classmates’) online resources for a study guide.

Bookmarks Bookmarks make the different sites easily accessible. You can have your online textbook, desire2learn, and other important sites in a quick and easy to find location.

You need to create an interactive tour of Berlin as an assignment for your study abroad program.

Prezi Prezi is a great visualization tool. Since it is formatted on a “parallex 3D” space, you can zoom in and out; almost mimicking the act of traveling to different cities or cites in Berlin.

You and a group of your classmates have been asked to do a collaborative research project on how Facebook has affected the social habits of young

Adults.

Mindmeister Mindmeister allows for a group of people to collaborate on creating a presentation in real time. This is time efficient because you do not have to travel to meet your group members or wait on ansynchronous answers, such as an email.
