Armor Project

Materials: Rigid Wrap, Cardboard, Paint, Duct tape, Wire, Colored Markers

Description:

This project is an abridged review. This project is the Armor Project. In this project we take a problem that irks us and a social world problem, then we create an armor that protects or combats that problem. We must create three pieces that makes up the armor. A headpiece, a wearable garment, and some object that can be handheld. We then must use material like rigid wrap and other items of our choice to bring this armor to life. Then this armor must be displayed by a model in an environment chosen by the creator.

Process:

I first started with a brainstorming process to figure out what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to do something with racism, so I played around with things relating to the theme. I ended up homing in on Prejudice against Interracial Relationships. As someone who is the son of an interracial relationship as well as having been in interracial relationships, this is something very personal to me, so I wanted to come up with something for it. I decided on a hand mask represent interracial relationships, specifically marriage. In terms of a wearable garment, I went with a cloak to reveal a heart that shows we are all human. The last piece I chose was a full body shield. The shield will be decorated with a hand heart on the back and the front with the word human written in many different languages. It is to resemble a riot shield which is the most protective shield. It is also seen in the police world and at protest which I think has a lot to do with interracial relationships. The plan is to cat my hands for the face and paint them separate colors.
