Darris Pope, Freelance Journalist, DJ & Media Blogger
Darris Pope is a freelance journalist based out of Atlanta, GA. Darris has written for various publications spanning the past 7 years. He has published articles for the GSU Signal, Media Matters magazine, Makin’ It Mag (music industry magazine), and is the Editor-In-Chief of two independent music blogs he runs, illuminousmusic and UrbanATLbeats.
A senior at Georgia State University majoring in Journalism, Darris has his minor in French, in which he is fluent, and also knows conversational Spanish and Japanese. From a young age Darris has always found the concept of learning foreign languages fascinating, after growing up around foreign language speakers.
Raised in Chamblee, GA, Darris has always been drawn to the creative arts. His stories have graced the cover of The Signal or been featured on the front page several times. He has covered news stories and written articles on topics as varied as Gun Control, Where to Park for Free in Downtown Atlanta, GSU Student Government pieces, crime on campus and has also covered Atlanta music concerts and music festivals.
When not writing, Darris enjoys working in retail, an industry he has thrived in for the past decade. He currently works customer service roles at both Publix and Costco, the former he has been with now for five years, receiving two promotions after starting as a cashier.
Darris is proficient in social media management and content creation, hosting a YouTube channel with more than 200 videos, over 150 subscribers and over 300,000 views. When he has spare time, Darris enjoys DJing, gaming, house music and staying up to date on the topics he covers.
