3 ways to be a successful online student

How’s it going, guys?

So for my next post, I’ll be talking about ways to be a successful student that’s taking an online course. Of course, this may seem to be irrelevant and very easy to do. However, overlooking the difficulties of an actual online class may prove to be costly. Although you have the freedom to do studying and time-management whenever you want, it actually can show to be a double-edged sword. Without proper control and discipline, an online class can easily cause havoc in your grade without you noticing it. This is the first way to be successful: Time Management. Always keep focus of when and how things should be done and turned in.

The next way is something that people fail to recognize: Communication. Because an online class offers a student independence; dependency or better yet, guidance disappears with that independence. This could lead to a confusion and misunderstanding in certain assignments. So always focus on a consistent way to keep in contact with the professor and make sure to keep up with the syllabus.

Lastly, one huge factor on becoming a successful online student is staying active and engaged with the class. This means avoid spending that 2 hours on facebook while doing your assignment. Read the syllabus and talk with the students in class. Ask questions the professor. Read the Unit and understand thoroughly what the assignment asks/what the chapter is about. Stay engaged with the class so you don’t get behind in any material.

That’s pretty much 3 successful ways to be an online student. Until next time.

Best Regards.

Tool Inventory

Task 1: You have to lead an online presentation on the contents of your history term paper.

  • Tools: Video Conferencing and Video Phone calls.
  • Reason: By setting up a video conference, you can present your presentation through the webcam and interact with your presentation’s audience.

Task 2: The final exam for your economics course is coming up, and you need to collect all of your (and hopefully your classmates’ online resources for a study guide.

  • Tools: Electronic Social Networks
  • Reason: Because electronic social networks connects anybody with the social media, it is a great way to find people in your class and set up information sharing messaging system for the study guide.

Task 3: You need to create an interactive tour of Berlin as an assignment for your study abroad program.

  • Tools: Blogs, Microblogging and Wikis
  • Reason: Blogs are a great way to create a tour for certain topics. Because they are capable of having links, texts and images, blogs can create different types of entries in order to interact with the person who’s browsing the website.

Task 4: You and a group of your classmates have been asked to do a collaborative research project on how Facebook has affected the social habits of young adults

  • Tools: Electronic Social Networks
  • Reason: By using the social network, the group can discuss any information and put it together into a collaborative research project to present.
