It’s no secret that after a couple of years, old fashion trends tend to come back in style. We have seen this phenomenon happen throughout history. For example: chokers have been recorded to be first worn back in 2500 BC by the Sumerians, later coming back to style around the 1800s and again in the 1900s, and they are now currently a staple piece for any outfit. But the most recent example of this phenomenon is the reemergence of 2000s fashion trends.
The early 2000s fashion scene brought a lot of interesting (and often confusing) fashion trends that are still very memorable to this day. We all remember low rise jeans, dresses over jeans, butterfly clips, shimmery lip gloss, and many more unique trends. But now, we have to wonder which of these 2000s fashion trends should make a comeback, and which trends should stay in the past.
Comeback
Velour tracksuits have slowly made their way back into fashion. According to Insider, these cute and comfy yet ineffective tracksuits have made their way back since 2018. Big retailers like Fashion Nova have been selling these in more toned-down colors such as maroon and army green compared to the original neon diamond encrusted track suits of the early 2000s. These track suits should definitely come back to style since they’re not only cute, but also comfy to wear while running errands.
Another early 2000s fashion trend, or in this case make-up trend that has been becoming increasingly popular are shimmery lip glosses. Lip gloss was a staple makeup piece to have in the 2000s. Instead of wearing bold lip colors or soft brown colors, the early 2000s brought the frosted lip gloss look to the regular shimmery lip gloss look. Popular lip gloss brands such as Lip Smackers and Lancôme Juicy Tubes were amongst some of the most popular brands at that time. Today, with the help of TikTok many people have taken the initiative to open their own small lip gloss businesses since this popular makeup trend has come back in style. Not only can you wear lip gloss to complete your ethereal Euphoriamakeup look, but lip gloss can also help you achieve a natural makeup look.
The last 2000s fashion piece that should stay is none other than button-up cardigans. Now, at first glance these cardigans don’t seem as appealing as some other staple pieces from this time. However, button-up cardigans can be a great accessory or top for any outfit as long as you know how to style them. These cardigans are not only comfy, but can be styled with anything such as jeans or a nice pattern skirt.
Stay in the Past
Dresses over jeans was a popular combination in the 2000s that should definitely stay in that era. I am not sure where this idea came to be or why it became popular, but this fashion statement is reminiscent of a middle school dance outfit. Not only are there so many layers involved in making this fashion trend, but it’s also unappealing to the eye. Not to even mention how uncomfortable it must have been to wear jeans under a cute flowy dress. Let’s keep this trend in the 2000s.
Frosted anything was a huge makeup trend back in the 2000s. Not only were people’s lips frosted and shiny, so were their eyes. Frosted eyeshadow was a huge makeup trend that many celebrities rocked during that time. However, although this was a staple look back in the day, I think it should probably stay that way. The frosted eyeshadow look is reminiscent of Halloween makeup, but I think this is mostly due to the application of it. Now, with more advanced make up techniques and if you know your stuff, frosted eyeshadow could look really good. But if we try and recreate a Paris Hilton eyeshadow look, we would most likely get some weird stares our way.
Last but certainly not least, the one staple piece from the early 2000s fashion scene that should stay in the past are low rise jeans. These jeans were extremely popular back then. Celebrities like Jlo, Lindsey Lohan to Paris Hilton all rocked these jeans back in the day. However, low rise jeans seem to be as uncomfortable as it can get. Although they are an interesting concept, I personally think they should most definitely stay in the past for us to look back on and admire from afar.
