Hello!
I am Dr. Donald Andrew Fentem, he/him, and I typically refer to myself as Andy. I have a Ph.D. in English (literary studies with an emphasis on Postcolonial Literature) and an M.A. in English from Georgia State University. I also hold a B.A. in English from Valdosta State University and an A.A. in Liberal Arts from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC). I am currently a Program Advisor for the National Instituted for Student Success (NISS) at GSU in Atlanta, Georgia. Previously, I have worked as a Visiting Lecturer, Graduate Teaching Assistant, Research Assistant, Logistics and Operations Manager, Shift Supervisor (Starbucks), and many other positions.
My interests in literature and critical theory inform my current work in Student Success, particularly as it relates to analyzing and troubleshooting systemic and institutional barricades to student success. Postcolonial Studies focuses heavily on systemic and institutional barriers to equality, acceptance, trauma, and many other things, but it is a field of study that requires an elevated approach to reality for individuals as with communities, peoples, races, and so on. What we then consider literary analysis with literary texts thus easily scales to analysis of non-literary texts, such as raw data, system mapping, and survey data. Marrying these forms of qualitative and quantitative information taps into a life-long intellectual curiosity and desire to understand complex things in all their complexity.
When not working, I enjoy catching up on films and TV shows, playing sports or board games in various pubs around the city, and catching up with friends. I hope to travel more in the near future and continue taking long walks with my two dogs, Charlie and Brody.
