The 90s decade had a trendy fashion style that is cycling back into the 21st century. In the early 1990s, everybody wore jackets and parachute pants. Back then, people wore certain colors that symbolized different types of fashion styles. Women wore a variety of clothing such as babydoll dresses and crop tops. Men, on the other hand, wore denim overalls, striped sweaters, and leather jackets. During the mid-1990s fashion evolved into more fitted styles. Women wore tailored skirts and pantsuits, slip dresses, and metallic. Men wore clothing that featured bold prints, paisley patterns, and velvet blazers. The late 1990s featured essential styles for women such as black pleather pants, halter tops, and platform shoes. Men wore mainly business casual and formal clothing in the 90s. The 90s decade brought several types of looks that stunned everybody. Grunge was known as one of the most popular styles. The 90s grunge fashion was basically another way of being “dressed down.” It was about wearing dark, edgy colors, long flannels, and ripped jeans with combat boots. Another popular style was “Modern Preppy.” Women wore plaid skirts, and sweaters with knee-high boots while men wore khakis and navy blazers. A known style for skaters is the Punk look.
The 90s was a decade of fashionable music trends, lyrics, and styles. Most popular music influences a listener’s attitudes, behavior, mood, and values. As well as the culture changes, the society had huge changes, being that the unemployment rate was at its lowest, Americans had money to spend, this decade was named the “luxury fever”. The reason being Americans began to gamble and it even was estimated that it brought in $1.4 billion in tax revenue to state and local governments. During this time people were also very interested in coffee being displayed through coffee shops such as Starbucks since they were making coffee more widely available via mail, coffee bars starting becoming immensely popular.
In the 90’s gays and lesbians were establishing themselves into society, this term was starting to become partially socially acceptable according to statistics, then finally in 92’ Clinton came into office and tried to lift the ban on gays serving in the U.S. military, then he finally compromised on the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, requiring all parties to stay silent regarding a soldier’s sexual orientation. Most denominations of Christianity rejected homosexuality since it was deemed in the Bible to be unnatural and a sin.
