An Animal Sanctuary

One the most unique aspects of this neighborhood’s land trust is that not only is it a place to grow as a community and grow vegetation, but your love for animals is sure to grow here as well.
Big Lou with Aiden and EddiePygmy GoatsIn case you didnt know, the Emu is normally found in Australia, but why travel all that way to see this beautiful animal, when you can just simply travel to Edgewood? Yes, that’s right ladies and gentlemen. The infamous long necked bird whose original home is “down under” can be found less than 5 miles east of Downtown Atlanta. This “EMU SANCTUARY” sign gives us some background information about Big Lou the Emu. According to the sign, Big Lou has lived here for more than 20 years and his favorite foods are grapes and melons. His friends pictured here are male mallard ducks named Aiden and Eddie. If the Emu and Ducks weren’t enough, you can walk up the hill and find some hens and Pygmy Goats. You can learn more about Big Lou at www.LCCLT.org

Respect The EmuBig Lou is not a fan of loud commotion, so this sign is posted along the fence of his sanctuary.

On a beautiful, sunny day like today, I wasn’t surprised to find Big Lou out and about. This freindly bird is just one of the great things about this community.
