The above chart are the top five results for six different search engines. The first three search engines Google.com, Bing.com, and Yahoo.com are all individual search engines and the last three search engines Dogpile.com, Webcrawler.com and Metacrawler.com, are all meta-search engines which simply mean that they compile search results from other search engines. The similarities between the results were expected although they do differ in some ways. The meta-search engines all display their ads as the very first results on a topic. Those search engines will be a good reference for advertisers to consider when they are looking for different websites to advertise their product or services. Another distinctive difference among the individual search engines are that Yahoo.com and Bing.com had the exact same among of results for the chosen search string which would suggests that they use the same type of web crawlers for their information. On the contrary Google.com had a much lesser result pile. Yahoo.com and Bing.com both also provided videos in their top five results unlike Google.com which would require its user to put the “videos” button to be taken to the video results and the same for images and maps. The meta-search engines also provided travel information to and from Haiti in their top five results which none of the individual search engines provided on any page.
