ART BONUS-vilnat PICTURES FROM THE ART MUSEUM <—–

I decided to go to the Earnest G. Welch art gallery on the Georgia State campus in Atlanta. I really wanted to go visit the High Museum of Art but it just so happens that when I decided to go, it was a Monday and all of the other exhibits were closed except for this one. First of all, it was really challenging to even find the art and humanities building. My mom and I asked around and eventually, we made it there. I got to see all of the other college students’ art work and work that they took their time doing. It wasn’t just pictures and painting hanging on the wall. There were sculptures and what appeared to be historical symbols all in one. Their were paintings of things that the students had researched and thought deeply about. I honestly do not think that it would be considered to be as good as the High Museum of art, but it still was pretty amazing to know that students my age have something to show for that other people can go look at and enjoy. I learned that in order for your work to be displayed, it doesn’t have to look perfect to everyone. I learned that there are actually art shows at this gallery and I kind of want to visit one when I find the time. I think that it would be very interesting. I also learned that the art that they have to show represents a variety of different people and cultures all around the world. I think this was a great activity and I am glad I got the opportunity to experience it.

Personal Cultural Heritage

Rustling Palm, 2004 (oil on canvas) Wall Art

This painting is a representation of my family heritage because since I was young enough to speak, we have always been to the beach as a huge family. The beach represents happiness from all of the generations. I have heard stories passed down from generation to generation that talk about old beach trips where our family gathered and enjoyed a good time. We all go to the beach at least 2 times a year and it is our goal to visit a new beach each time we plan a beach trip. Having this family heritage is very knowledgable because you hear about all of the trips that happened and the stories that have been told there that will make memories and last a life time.

Music runs in my family. A lot of people in my family have a beautiful voice and love to sing. Some of my family sings in their church quires, school bands, and even youth singing groups. Music brings about all of the emotions, feelings, and happiness in people’s lives and it really gives them a chance to express their individuality. A lot of my family members travel to different events to sing. Not only do they sing, but some of them are so musically talented that they also play a band instrument. Music is our heart and it travels with us wherever we may go. It brings about my family and what we stand for and it definitely is a part of my family cultural heritage.

Farming in my family heritage has been around for an extremely long time. It has been passed down from generation to generation with owning farm land in Newton County, Georgia. Talking with those of who are in my family know a lot of facts and information about farming and talk about all of the old farm land that has been ours for many years and goes back to my great great grandparents property from what we can understand. Time and technology has really played a huge role within farming. Everything is starting to change and now thankfully, you do not have to work as hard with the farms and keeping them well kept compared to back in the old ages. It is not an easy job by any means, but farming is something that has been around and will continue to play a role in our every day lives.

Blog Assignment 9- I HAZ MEME

I definitely would consider memes to be art. I think it expresses people’s individuality just like a painting would. It also brings out the humor in things or people.. just like memes of Kanye West, Hilary Clinton, animals, or even our president, Donald Trump. I think they bring about politics and things that is going on in the real world to bring humor back into our lives. They are actually a really cool thing that bring out the significance that allows people to express emotions that sometimes can be a motivation. It is definitely art, because just like a real artist…, it took time and dedication to come up with something original that the public can enjoy. I created this meme because my friend and I were doing one of those videos to where we made ourselves look ugly with makeup and then did our makeup better to show people what makeup can actually do. I thought it would be funny to use this picture for this because I thought it fit perfectly.

Personal Truisms

While reading Jenny Holzer’s Truisms, I noticed that she was to be considered a neo-conceptual artist. Jenny turned to strategies of mass media and advertising in her work which is a way to get noticed in my opinion and to actually get your name out there. She was known for Truisms which started in 1979 and then carried on this tradition by putting up truisms in local areas in Manhattan to bring out her work to random people. She used these truisms as a symbol to represent people and the things that hurt people or things that bring people down. She shows that just behind a person holds the life of human and the battles that they may have gone through. It made it to where people can relate to other people that may be going through the same thing. Her work and her meaning are still displayed today in famous world museums that people can see all over the world.

My truism comes from one of the most difficult times in my life when I went off to college. I went away to college my first year and lived in Athens with none of my friends and 3 random roommates that I ended up hating. I went to class and basically came back to my apartment….alone. I always felt alone. I didn’t get to make friends that well. I wanted to come home all of the time. I struggled with my classes. I didn’t make the best grades my first year. I just hated everything and I could not wait to switch schools. I learned that it could always be worse and that it would all be over before I knew it and I just prayed for the best with the next year in my life. I figured that it wasn’t time for me to leave home, my friends and family. I thought I was ready, but it ended up that I just was not ready for that point in my life to grow up and be “alone.”

Blog 7- Tattoo Artist

  • Original Remake
What is the content? Who created it and why? The content is basically from when Rockwell lived in Arlington, Vermont and the WWII years when there were a lot of people that wanted tattoos and it started trending. The sailor in this painting had pretty much been in ports and posed for Rockwell for this picture. I think the reason for this picture is that Rockwell thought tattoos give us a reminder of our feelings at that certain time in our lives and maybe the feelings that we had at one time, might change. But, the tattoo will be there forever to remind us. http://www.best-norman-rockwell-art.com/1944-tattoo-artist.html
  • When was the work created? What is the context of the work? This work was created in March of 1944. In this picture, to certain people it could mean many different things but I think what it was trying to show was that Rockwell was a funny guy and that his friends wanted to pose for him in a different way. http://www.art.com/products/p9388040736-sa-i5446832/norman-rockwell-tattoo-artist-march-4-1944.htm?ac=true
  • What are 2 types of analysis (other than formal) which can be used to view the work? You must explain (use) each of these types of analysis to explain your work in addition to merely listing them!  We could use a contextual analysis of the painting because there are many objects in this picture that help us better understand the time frame and the meaning of what is going on behind the painting. Such as, the the background wall in this picture shows us some tattoos that actually exist and that people have the option of getting those while going into a tattoo shop. The colors in this picture also seem to me like it was in older times. It also seems to me like the tattoos that the sailor has on his arm are getting marked out by the tattoo artist and it looks like maybe ex wives or ex girlfriends names. I could also use stylistic analysis because of what kind of style this picture is and how distinctive this picture is to other pictures. It is what makes this artists’ style so different compared to other artists’ styles.
  • I found this assignment super hard because none of my family members wanted to help me out and be involved in this picture so I had to come up with a super quick and easy way to do this and I am a terrible artist so therefore,…. this will not be my best work. This was definitely embarrassing actually because I cannot draw and I could NOT for the life of me, think of another way to insert a picture that looked like the original one.

House on Fire

I took this picture thinking pretty quickly so I did not get to grab some items that I would grab in a house fire.

Not pictured: Old photo albums of family and friends, old jewelry passed down from generation to generation, and money that I have been saving up for a long long time.

I chose my dog, because of course…. he’s my dog and I do not know what I would do if I did not have him. He is what makes me laugh on my sad days and cuddles with me when my boyfriend doesn’t. I love him and he would probably be one of the first things I would grab if a house fire were to happen. My dog’s name is Trigger and he means the world to me!

I chose my macbook because it has a lot of pictures and things that are very memorable to me that I would really be hurt if I did not have it. I love my computer and all of the pictures, videos and memories that it holds.

I chose my shoes, because first of all, I am a shoe fanatic. I am obsessed with shoes in the first place and all of the money that I make, usually goes to shoes. I would actually probably grab more if I could. But I would hate to be without a new pair of shoes so I feel as if that is something that I can NOT do without.

I grabbed my purse because it has my money and cards and lip glosses and all of the other materialistic type things that make me happy so I wouldn’t want to leave all of that behind. I feel like my purse is my best friend. I take it EVERYWHERE. I cannot do without it.

I chose some pieces of jewelry because very special people gave me these pieces and I would be devastated if something happened to them. I hold them very close to my heart so having this jewelry reminds me of the people who gave it to me.

I chose my camera because I love taking pictures and pictures make memories. I am just beginning to get into photography more and I really love how pictures can make me so happy. They hold so many things and you can see it all in a picture.

I chose my phone, because who wouldn’t? I would need my contact list… because I can’t remember everyone’s phone numbers so I think having my phone would help me with that.

I hope that when someone looks at my picture, they think the same thing as me. I am super sentimental but the things that aren’t pictured would let you know that I really am. I hold on to my memories because even if the people aren’t physically here, I have memories of them that will stay with me forever and thats something I can always cherish. I love everything in this picture and all of it means so much to me. It doesn’t look like a lot, but if I didn’t have time to grab more, this is all I would grab. I love life and I live it to the fullest so hopefully, all of my items would let you know that about me.

A “Thousand” words

Artist: Ernst Wilhelm Nay-

Die Graue Stadt 1942

Link: http://www.artnet.com/artists/ernst-wilhelm-nay/die-graue-stadt-le-mans-a-X0aTCtx5LPfi_NRht3Abwg2

Formal Analysis: This work is super random and difficult to read. It is a lot of colors, designs, and shapes that all come together to create one random picture. You really don’t know what this work of art is when you look at it. It has a lot of green, yellow and white shapes that you can’t seem to grasp what the image actually is. The work is super textured. When staring at this photo, you can almost get frustrated while looking because you can’t figure out what the artist is trying to tell you.

http://www.artnet.com/artists/ernst-wilhelm-nay/

Iconographic Analysis: Nay was admitted to the Berlin Art Academy in 1925 and quickly became the master student of Realist painter Carl Hofer. Nay’s early expressionive paintings found success, but it was short lived. Like many avant-garde artists of the time, Nay’s modern work was rejected by the German National Socialists and in 1937 was included in “Degenerate Art,” the notorious anti-modernist exhibition. Maybe everything that he learned in his past contributed to what art he did in the future.

http://www.kemperartmuseum.wustl.edu/news/9878

Contextual Analysis: In 1940, Nay was drafted into the German army as a cartographer and later traveled to France, while his art studio in Berlin was bombed. I think that maybe since he went through a lot during his lifetime and having so many works of art that meant so much to him and then they all burnt down, I could imagine that it could ruin your whole life. He was also in post world war 2 time and has seen a lot in his life time.

Paragraph 3: This work of art is so aggravating because I cannot figure out what it is. It has no form of being anything that is real so I feel like the artist did not even know what he was doing while doing this art piece. I think it may relate to what he had going on in life at the time. It may have taken some time to do this, but then again it could have been something that came unexpected as well. I do not believe that this painting or whatever you want to call it, has a purpose at all. I do not see anything of this work of art that has any purpose in any way. I think that is why I cannot make myself like it.

Paragraph 4: I guess I can see where someone would think this piece of art is pretty or “unique”. Maybe the randomness of this picture would mean a lot to someone. It could relate to people on not just an artful level but it could relate to people on a personal level that means something than just a picture to some people. Maybe other people think that the artist worked hard to create this like so. People may also like it because of its color and lines that it takes to form this. I still personally do not like this picture because it doesn’t mean anything to me and I think it is a pointless picture that was just thrown together to create something.

Spectrum of Representation- LOVE

Representative art aims to represent objects and things from reality.

Abstract art takes items and objects from reality, but puts them in a different way than what they are really viewed as.

Non- Objective art takes nothing from reality and makes something interesting.

Allan Teger

Lovers on the hill, 2009
Contempop Gallery

I feel as if this image represents representative art because it relates to humans sitting on a bench and kissing one another. This picture to me feels as if it real and it’s pretty much reality other than the fact that it is not in color. This picture is more representative than the other ones because it looks more real life-like.

Roy Lichtenstein
Kiss II Beach Blanket
Artware Editions

This image sort of relates to the top one but it is more comic strip like than the first picture. This also has something to do with reality so I would say it represents people kissing. (LOVE) This picture is more representative than the birds because it is having to do with people.

Dave White
Lovebird
Lawrence Alkin Gallery

This last picture I put is 2 birds that seem to look like they are kissing. They are putting their beaks together and this is pretty realistic but it seems that the other 2 pictures are more realistic than this one since the other pictures have people.

Representative:

Mr. Brainwash
Love, 2016, 2016
DIGARD AUCTION

I chose this picture because a heart shape is in real life, yet the picture seems to be misunderstood. It looks like it could possibly be a painting or a window with writing on it.

Mr. Brainwash
Love, 2017
Contessa Gallery

This second picture favors the top one, but it is in a different color and it is also misunderstood. From the color of it though, I would have to say that it represents love as well.

Abstract:

Dan Baldwin
Love Birds, 2016
Maddox Gallery

This picture flows with the category abstract because I feel as if this is a lot of just jumble thrown together in a picture to represent love according to the title yet we cannot see the “love” in the picture. This picture is more non-objective because it really doesn’t look like it serves a purpose since there is just shapes and colors everywhere.

Valerio Adami
Incontro, 2014–2016
The Mayor Gallery

This last picture was really hard for me to find and I feel like it could actually be placed into more than one category depending on how you observe it. I chose it because if you look closely, those are not meant to be people I don’t think. It looks like shapes formed together to create the people. So it kind of looks like a jumble of colors and shapes thrown together to make this picture.

Non-Objective:

BONUS- Superbowl 51 Commercial

1.) I chose the Mr. Clean commercial to do for this assignment.

2.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SryTi5vcuoc…………….. The video for this starts at 0:50.

3.) -I picked the Mr. Clean commercial because first of all, it was funny and it caught my attention. I thought that the colors in the commercial were bright and it showed the creativeness by making a woman see a mess and a slightly attractive guy helping her clean the mess with upbeat music that got her in the “mood” to clean. Towards the end of the video, it shows a quote that states “You gotta love a man that cleans.” I think it is different from other cleaning commercials because of its way to make people laugh and that is being tied in to a cleaning commercial rather than like a skittle commercial or etc.

-Since the colors are bright and the music has a catchy beat, it gives the viewers a good laugh and makes them favor that commercial over other commercials. It also makes people mimic the commercials so they will remember when they go to the store to use THAT product. The mood is a happy yet sexy type of feel. Because Mr. Clean has the woman feeling some type of way and when he magically turns into her husband, she instantly says that she loves a man that can clean. I think it makes people feel good about the product and makes them want to purchase it.

– I do think that the money was utilized very well being that many people remember this specific commercial and a lot of people talk about this commercial. It made the viewers laugh while getting the point across so I think it worked perfectly and worked like how a commercial should be portrayed.
