I attended a student success workshop, called study skills 5.0. We basically discussed way to take notes, prepare for exams, and stay focused throughout our academic careers. Some of the suggestions for taking notes were to first determine our learning style. Whether it be visual, audio, or tactile. We could use this to help us understand what we are recording. By analyzing it based on our unique learning abilities. By using abbreviations, drawn images/pictures or highlighting excessively. We must do what makes us comfortable and provides the most help. Some suggestions for exam preparation were to review before it, attend study groups, prepare ourselves emotionally, and just stay positive. If you believe you can achieve it, you mostly likely will. Some suggestions for during the exam were also made. Like reading the essay questions ahead of time, using notes from previous questions, and never leaving blanks. To prevent future failures. An topic was staying focused by using different memory tactics. Such as acronyms, mnemonic devices, and memory games. This allows for the lesson to be retain and stored in our minds. Which could be helpful in staying focused and ahead in all of our classes. So, overall I learned the importance of having such useful skills when it comes to excelling.
