Greetings, Social Studies Explorers!

Welcome to your class website for your project-based learning task. This time: instead of Ms. Skeete teaching you through notes and graphic organizers, this time YOU and YOUR CLASSMATES are going to research and examine different types of economic systems, create fake ‘cities’ using the information about the different economies (traditional, command, and market) Then you will teach, MS. SKEETE and YOUR CLASSMATES about one of the types of economies or the economic questions during whole-class CLOZE notes.

Using images and digital tools, find 5-7 images for each type of economy so you set up your ‘CityMarket’. In groups of 4, students will collaborate to synthesize information about different types of economies and begin to build their cities using Google Slides as the anchor digital tools. Students will need to create a legend to showcase what symbols and objects mean for each city. For example, in a traditional economy students could use an image of fruits and an image of farming tools to demonstrate bartering. Distinct arrows should be the main image that students use while building their virtual models of cities to demonstrate the exchange of goods/services. The arrows should showcase the (3) economic questions: what, for whom, and how to produce.

After students complete (3) different virtual cities in small-groups using 5-7 images and arrows for flow of exchange, students will begin fill-in-the-blank CLOZE notes as a group. When each group has complete CLOZE notes for 1 of the 3 different types of economies, teacher will facilitate peer support for whole-class CLOZE notes. Students will present their learning and knowledge for different types of economies by discussing their analysis and inquiry of CLOZE notes.
