My art is inspired by my connection with nature. I have always been a naturalist at heart – as a child exploring nearby fields and forests and, as a professional naturalist in my work life. For me art is a way to “see” and experience the world around me. I enjoy sketching in the outdoors or collecting and drawing natural objects that I find in nature – either from wild places or my own backyard.
As a biology graduate student, I completed coursework in Scientific Illustration and Field Sketching. These classes opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities – they provided a way for me to connect my passion for science/nature with my interest in art.
Now that I am retired I have returned to college to study art and earn my BFA in Drawing, Painting & Printmaking.
“I have learned that what I have not drawn I have never really seen, and that when I start drawing an ordinary thing, I realize how extraordinary it is, sheer miracle.”
