Objective: In this series of drawings I used ink and ink wash to draw a bell pepper.
Materials: Bristol paper, Higgins Black Magic Ink, crow quill pen, round brush, palette
Process: I drew five renderings of a green pepper using ink applied with a crowquill pen or with a rounded brush as a wash. The five treatments were drawn as: 1 – contour line only, 2 – stipple only, 3 – hatch/crosshatch & stipple, 4 – wash only, 5 – wash + other processes. I first drew the bell pepper on a piece of tracing paper, rubbed pencil on the backside of the tracing paper and then “transferred” the pepper to Bristol paper for the drawings with ink. This transfer was not part of the assignment but, I struggled to draw the pepper freehand using ink. I went back to this assignment after practicing more with wash and was able to draw the pepper with wash only (without the transfer step) as I became more comfortable with the medium.
