Exploratory Podcast Script Rough Draft
Intro: Chill Instrumental fade (in)
Cheane: Good morning everyone, my name is Cheane Nurse and I am a freshman GSU student, and I am joined here with my guest (Guest Name), why don’t you say something for our listeners?
Guest: Hey what’s going on, My name is (Guest Name), I’m not really a GSU student but I’m here
Cheane: So today, we are going to be talking about the concept of arguing and different forms of arguing, by chance do you know anything about the different types of arguments (Guest Name)?
Guest: I actually do not, what are they
Cheane: Well there are three main ways a person can argue, these three being through what is called pathos, logos, and/or ethos.
Cheane: Do any of these terms ring a bell to you now that you hear them.
Guest: Definitly not, I’ve been out of school for too long to remember those/They do ring a bell a little bit
Cheane: Well to refresh your memory, Pathos – is the act of arguing through emotions, Logos – is the act of arguing using logic, and Ethos – is the act of arguing through ethics
Guest: seems more familiar now
Cheane: We are going to take look at a reading piece we looked at in class, it was written by Jay Heinrichs, and is titled “Thank You For Arguing”
Cheane: In his written piece, he uses some personal experiences with his sons as an example, here’s one
Cheane: Coming from page 36 of Heinrichs written piece *reads out* “But he just looked at me with tears in his eyes, Next, I tried reasoning with him, using argument by logic. Me: Pants will keep your legs from chapping. You’ll feel a lot better. George: But I want to wear shorts”
Cheane: Clearly he still failed arguing with a child but that is beside the point, he used logical reason to defend why he should wear pants instead of shorts. Now, for the audience, do you think you can tell them a story about a time you used a form of argument, it can be the other one too
Guest: Let’s see, *Interjects Story*
Cheane: *Interjects Story about personal experiences also*
Cheane: Well that’s all really, thank you again (guest name) for joining me on my podcast today, see all you another time
Outro: Chill Instrumental (fade out)

Podcast Outline
The length of the podcast is required to be at least 4 to 5 minutes, my podcast may possibly stretch over that due to conversation throughout it. The podcast will start off, with basic introductions. I state my name and the class that this is for as well as introduce my guest who is one of my personal friends. I give a short introduction for him and he comes in and says something for himself. I then proceed to introduce the topic that we will be talking about in this podcast (which hasn’t been finally decided) which will most likely stem from one of the readings from this semester. I will introduce the topic to my guest and then proceed to ask if he has any prior knowledge or anything to give me about the topic. If not, I would proceed to read an objective summary about to topic to bet get them to understand the topic in a concise manner. If however, they actually do have some prior knowledge on the topic, I would ask them to elaborate on what they know and see if I can relate to it. Since this portion could possibly go by fast, I might prepare a backup topic to bounce onto to discuss. As well as this, I will prepare questions to ask for both topics assuming the guest knows nothing about neither. Questions would most likely be about if they’ve experienced anything where the topic was a dependent factor in a situation and how did they act in it. Even for length requirements or the guest having confusion, I’ll also include experiences of situations where the topic is the main factor. After this, we will proceed to the conclusion where I ask the guest to reflect on what they have learned if it was impactful for them.
Blog 3 – Deforestation
The topic I’ve chosen for this assignment is Deforestation and its causes and effects around the world. Deforestation is known as the act of stripping forested land of its resources often resulting in destroyed land. My topic encompasses influencers of deforestation such as industrialization or market gains, and also what happens because of it, such as habitat loss and climate change. One of the sources I plan to use comes from a journal from The University of Chicago Press and is titled “What Drives Deforestation and What Stops It” by Jonah Busch and Kalifi Ferretti-Gallon. Their journal in short introduces reasons for deforestation based on research they’ve conducted. They also include ways that can help prevent deforestation. Another source I planned to use comes from a PLos ONE journal titled “Impacts of forestation and deforestation on local temperature across the globe” presented by Jayme A. Prevedello ,Gisele R. Winck,Marcelo M. Weber,Elizabeth Nichols, and Barry Sinervo. Their journal provides their research on world temperatures because of deforestation while also including equations to compare with. Their approach is more mathematical and provides a different view on the effects of Deforestation. A third source I plan to use comes from a journal found from Scientific Reports titled “Deforestation and world population sustainability: a quantitative analysis” and presented by Mauro Bologna and Gerardo Aquino. This journal covers also takes a mathematical approach by setting up a proportion of deforested land to population. Lastly, this source is a journal coming from Barbara Ucelis Lyra and Daniel Rigo and is titled “Deforestation impact on discharge regime in the Doce River Basin”. This journal covers the affects of deforestation in the a wildlife environment, particularly the Doce River located in Brazil. This is one of many environments affected by deforestation and will be used as a source in my writing.
The ensure that I’m using proper MLA formatting and citations I plan on using the various sources provided to me. To make sure my pages are formatted correctly I will use Dr Fentems guidelines on what components go where, awswell as the MLA checklist. Next, in order to have correct citations, I will mainly use the PurdueOWL to ensure I’m citing material correctly.
There are a few struggles that I have came across in preparing for this major assignment. Most notably would be the problem of paying attention to what I’m writing. When I say this, I’m referring to my very short attention span that causes me to doze off within 10 seconds of writing. This mainly occurs when I don’t have 100% clear idea of what I’m typing and happens most days out of the week. This causes me to lose valuable time and creates panic of having to rush along with work for other classes. Procrastination is a minor problem that comes up very rarely. I usually tend to procrastinate after I get home from work, since at that time I’m more than likely mentally exhausted. This follows me going to through a period of scrolling social media and fixing a music queue then coming back to attention span issue when starting to actually work. Overall the 1000 word minium I feel is justified for this assignment. I don’t believe I will have much trouble writing it and I should be fine overall.

Blog 1 – Biden Mishaps (Revision)
Biden Mishaps
Over the past weeks, President Biden has been ordering soldiers to withdraw from the middle east. Unfortunately, the U.S military admitted to killing 10 civilians in a bombing, seven being children and one being an aid worker, who were mistaken for being associated with ISIS.
Appealing to feelings
The article details the majority of positive acts Zemerai Ahmadi, the aid worker, did in the span of his life. They emphasize how hardworking and how close he was successful in detailing his profession and including the fact of his nearly confirmed refugee status. Pathos is further enacted by implementing pictures with captions to cause the reader to visualize how detrimental the situation is.
Seeing both sides
Throughout the article, the reasons for defending the bombing are inserted in multiple instances. From the excerpt comes “The Pentagon described the accidental killing of Ahmadi as a result of the frenzied evacuation…”. While it is important to see both sides of the conflict, sentences inserted as so should not influence the main standpoint being that US Military was wrong.
The Halo Affect
As reported in the article, Biden was seen publicly traveling to his vacation home after said incident. He remained silent as stated in “He said nothing to reporters on his way out of the White House or upon arrival in Delaware. On first notice, this action gives Biden a poor look, giving him a negative outlook to outside viewers. His silence comes off as uncaring and unbothered. While this may be a justified first thought, its also possible for him to have a contingency already in motion about the situation
Being primed on prior information
Biden’s eligibility of being a president has been a topic through the first year of his term, as early as his first month in. Multiple news outlets/talk shows have nit-picked his ideals and speaking habits during his speeches. From an uninvolved individual, this a very common starting view of Biden (being an incapable elder) forming an already negative bias around him. This already present bias affects the objectivity of Biden in this specific situation, already deducing him as an incapable leader.
Take into account the author of said article and their potential bias.
This article is presented on New York Post news site by Steven Nelson. Steven Nelson has numerous articles in his catalog pertaining to Biden’s decisions. One title of his works is “Biden’s dad worked for corrupt union group that got federal funds, the book claims” without reading clouds Biden in a negative cloud. There are more articles that also do the same, giving off the author, Steven Nelson, who already doesn’t approve of Biden himself and holds a negative bias.
Letting logic effect the situation
Nelson’s article provides points that were stated by Pentagon. These points are used to provide a logical reason for why the attacks were sent out. An example comes from the Pentagon stating “the strike was a successful mission to prevent another bombing of the Kabul airport…”. This alone can sway readers in a more favorable way to the side of the U.S and cause them to agree. It is important to not let the use of logic take away from the subject of the article
Annotated Bibliography 2 – Deforestation
Deforestation: Causes and Impacts
Deforestation is the mass removal of plants/trees from an ecosystem. It’s been done over multiple centuries and almost everywhere in the world. While it has been done, almost everywhere, with the constant worldwide industrial growth, it has become a notable problem. Deforestation strips animals of their homes, harming their population, and destroys the soil leading to desertification (the process of turning into desert). Deforestation today is motivated by more economic reasons such as industrial & agricultural expansion, wood logging, urbanization, and more.
What need is there in the mass cutting down of trees? Within the last century, Earth has seen a major human population boost. This comes with the new augmented technology/healthcare that makes living more sustainable. As the population increases, there needs to be a greater resource compensation for it which is where the increase of deforestation comes in. New homes need to be built, more resources need to be produced for consumption, and more land needs to be allotted. To provide this, more trees need to be cut down to supply all of this. Since our population is highly unlikely to decrease as rapidly as it increased, this is an ongoing prominent issue.

How does deforestation affect the living beings of Earth? Trees are the main initiator in our oxygen cycle as well as our water cycle. This means that cutting down trees not only interferes with these cycles, it also weakens the ratio between cycles and human pollution. In this case, growing urbanization is and will outgrow the number of trees able to produce oxygen and contribute to the water cycle. In a quantitative analysis about Deforestation by Mauro Bologna and Gerarado Aquino, they include the comparison of there being 60 million square kilometers of forest but as a result of deforestation, only 40 million square kilometers remaining. In miles, this equates to going from about 23,166,130 square miles to around 15,444,086 square miles in the span of all human development. They proceed to detail how detrimental this is by using a math equation detailing how and at what point there has been too much damage done.
https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/features/Deforestation/deforestation_update3.php
Who are the main causes of deforestation? The cutting down of trees does economically benefit a mass amount of markets. A notable benefitting party of deforestation are logging companies. They cut down trees and use and take the most valuable timber. While they do this, they provide the gateway to developing the land they cut. Examples of this would be building roads or housing on the cut land, sometimes even using the same wood that had been cut down. State influences also play a part in this, logging and agricultural produce can provide considerable income to a country, encouraging deforestation.

How can deforestation be stopped? Deforestation will likely always be somewhat prominent due to the constant development of society. However, some actions can be taken to reduce the impacts. Coming from an article from Jonah Busch and Kalifi Ferrettii-Gallon, they mention multiple solutions in reducing the impacts. They list reasons such as limiting the construction of roads in deep forest ways and directing logging attention away from high-density tree areas. With the progression of society, these are probably the only measures that can be taken to avoid the greater effects of deforestation.
