  1. Questions for Interviewee: Write the three or four of the questions that elicited the best responses. How did these change based on previous experience?
    1. What were you taught about mental health? Was it talked about?
    2. Why do you think people are afraid to go to mental health appointments? Appointments in general?
    3. How do you feel about the current way that appointments are set-up and what might help to lessen the fear?What are some ideas that might fix this issue? Solutions? Counter-measures?

      • Goes to the doctors regularly but would not return to the last place they went.
      • Her prior location treated her like a literal child despite her being a young adult and would not listen to her. This has made her feel as though doctors don’t take her seriously and brush her to the side.
      • Her best visit involved the staff allowing her all the time she needed to go through the appointment, making sure she was respected. She wasn’t sure if this was because they heard her crying or not, but thinks that this is the best she will ever be treated.
      • She has learned about mental health through observation of those close to her.
      • People might be afraid of appointments because they don’t understand, listen, or care. If you don’t care about your mentality, why should someone else. 
      • You’re not paying them to care, but to know that the professional will help and possibly shows some signs of empathy would make visits more endearing.
      • Having help readily available would be nice.
      • Her main thought was the institution of different types of solutions would be more effective.
      • She brought up increasing the availability of psychologists, therapy opportunities, and solutions for people who suffer that don’t include medicine.
      • The health system has failed Americans.
      • Too expensive and not focusing on other solutions.
      • The system focuses too much on medicine and funding rather than the research and alternate solutions.
      • There are other methods of self-care and self-treatment that doesn’t always look the same for every individual.
