This wasp fly is cousin to the lemon butterfly. It resembles the lemon butterfly’s wings with its wings angular shape and leafy green under wing. this unique wasp-fly camouflages in two ways concealing coloration / disguise and mimicry. In resting position much like the lemon butterfly it resembles a leaf (by its shape and color). Another defense camouflage mechanism the wild rose Golden wasp-fly has is it takes its wings and wraps itself up, then hangs from branches to look like a chrysalis.

Origin of the name: The Golden Color of the males is what gave this insect its common name. It’s scientific names are quite full of imagery; Gonepteryx means “angular wing”( from Greek Gonia,”angle,” and pferyx, “wing”, while the name Be’degar ( from the Arab-Persian Badaward, meaning “rose (carried by) the wind”).

I love this bug project because not only are we experimenting with drawing and the studying of bugs. I enjoyed visiting the library because i don’t normally do that, except to use the computers. I enjoyed learning about the different types of bugs and where they are from and where their names come from. My favorite part is being able to take all these aspect of our project and bring it to life by creating my own bug out of wire and being able to see my creature come to life.
