Makings of a beautiful French garden

There are a few aspects that make up what we have grown to know as the French Garden many of which were already a part of architectural landscaping at the time. Andre Le Notre and Jean Charles Adolphe emphasized and expanded upon these main themes to create some of the most beautiful gardens in France.

  1. Symmetry and order – since these landscapes were designed to be viewed from a distance for example from the house and palaces of royalty.
  2. Gravel paths and stone surfaces – in contrast to all of the lush green foliage and hints of lavender these paths really make the grounds pop in comparison to it’s muted tone.
  3. Geometric planting beds – getting back to the symmetry of the overall garden grounds clean geometric planting beds and shrubbery accentuate the simplistic symmetry.
  4.  Sitting areas and dining spots – now that this magnificent garden has been placed before you wouldn’t you like to have a seat and bask in it’s glory? Or course, after all what’s a garden without trendy little chairs and tables to enjoy your afternoon tea or evening wine.
