3 Drawings Project

“3 Drawings” Various media, July 20, 2022

For this project, the class was assigned to draw three scenes in various perspectives that would be included in another project assigned at the same time, a sequential narrative. The first drawing here is a pen and ink drawing of the Florence Cathedral from atop a hill, in one-point perspective. The second is a less exact location, a scene of a sailboat drifting on water, made on black paper with a terracotta and white colored pencil, plus sparse uses of charcoal, depicting atmospheric perspective. The third is a gondola ride somewhere in Venice, made with watercolor paint and watercolor pencils, in two-point perspective.

Many hours were spent in the brainstorming phase. The concepts went through many changes in which I tried to find photographs that both adhered to the perspective I wanted and the subject I needed. Once the ideas for all three perspectives were chosen, I worked on the black paper from start to finish first, since it was the simplest one, then did the watercolor and ink pieces at the same time, going back and forth when one needed to dry or I needed a break from one medium.
