Speakers at CLACEC meetings, 2011-2015:

We regularly invite speakers from C.S. and Engineering industries. Here are some details on getting internships and R.E.U.s that we’ve learned:

The below website is the general hub, you’ll find most of the REUs (Research Experience for Undergraduates) at this website. A good amount will most likely lead to university websites (some of which may be discontinued, no worries keep searching!). BE SURE to check the individual REU websites for requirements such as US citizenship! As you can see on the first page there are lots of options so go nuts. Lastly don’t be afraid to look outside your field. https://www.nsf.gov/crssprgm/reu/reu_search.jspNSF REUs

SULI is an REU for students at major national labs across the country. Pretty competitive since they take you to huge labs to participate in crazy cool research. SULI accepts only US citizens and those with Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR). SULI

NASA general website for interns, fellows (fellowships), Pathways student (Definitely check this one out), and international interns. The NASA website is pretty well laid out with these questions to direct you where to go.  NASA OSSI

The following are mostly for various company internships/Co-Ops: Lockheed Martin, Boeing,  SpaceX, Orbital ATK

Essentially when it comes to companies just search the company’s name  & “internships”. You should be able to find it pretty easily. Sometimes they hide their internships within the job search on the companies’ website. If the company or govt agency is small enough and doesn’t have a webpage dedicated for internships, try emailing them! Seriously! Just email their HR department and ask if they have internships for college students.

Make sure to read the FAQs and the fine print to make sure you’re eligible. Also if it’s available read up on the research that’s ongoing at the internship you want. Try to understand as much as you can on the research, look up reputable articles or research papers, etc. This way if you get an interview, email exchange, or phone call you can impress them! Tread carefully to not talk about something you don’t know, it’s okay to not know so admit the stuff you don’t know and tell them why you want to learn it! Besides you want to do the internship to learn.
