Prompt # 4

Response Prompt #4

I am planning to write my personal experience for this assignment. When I came to America, I had to learn how to listen, read, speak and write. All these are connected to literacy. Coming to this country pretty much changed my life, but learning new things, such as language, came to a huge problem. The sentence form of English is different than of Korean. Of course, it has a different pronunciation. It was my first time to learn a language in native society. (other than Korean) I think I can write this experience in literacy wise.

Response Prompt #3

“As I have been attempting to argue, literacy as a resource becomes able to ordinary people largely through the meditations of more powerful sponsors”-page 173. This quote is saying that an arguing is going to effect many people with powerful sponsors. I think it is pretty much strong point among the other quotes.

“The concept of sponsors helps to explain, then, a range of human relationship and ideological pressures that turn up at the scenes of literacy… impositions and deprivations by church or state.” I think this quote shows about the author’s thought very shortly, because this explains what sponsor.

“We have seen how literacy sponsors affect literacy learning in two powerful ways. They help to organize and administer stratified systems of opportunity and access and they raise the literacy stakes in struggles for competitive advantage” This is a strong theory that the author is arguing about the sponsorship and how it effects to people in literal way.

The story’s Author is arguing about sponsors mainly. How the sponsors need to work and what to do with point. He also talks about literacy to explain the systems of language and definition of literacy. This story was much through than any other story I read in this class.

– I think this quote shows that the protagonist did not want to fail his life even thought he was born in poor family. He used his situation and his environment to create his maximum ability. For example,  He was lucky to have the comic books, because it lead him to read. Because of this, he was able to study far beyond than his classmate.
