Season 2 Vlogs – What do you think about the social distribution of different forms of power in the United States and across the world?

Vlog #6 – 7/19/14

It’s often portrayed as us being the ones to bring about big change, however I would like to argue that the no one can bring about bigger change than those at the top. They are the ones with power, money, and influence, why don’t you help the efforts of those lower in the hierarchy to have a greater impact.

In terms of the bigger scheme of things, of course everyone can make a different food choices for themselves that are often more healthier, but that may not necessarily change the people and corporations who are only concerned with making money and not about lives (meaning humans and animals). They’re the ones who need to be kicked out

How dare anyone use a religion for an agenda of suffering and oppression. This is what I feel has been done with Christianity. A lot of good things have come from Christianity, and even amongst Europeans they have had reforms of their church, like the Luther church. However, what has stayed consistent is how the religion has been used to devalue people of color through white Jesus. Things like Manifest Destiny which had resulted in things like the Trail Of Tears came from radicalized ideas of Christianity. This is just one example throughout history, but we can see their radicalized Christianity even today.

Vlog #9 – 7/27/14

Being in America of course you need to know English in order to do basic things. We all know this. However, race, nationality, and language are used as tool to other certain groups. In terms of language, many people from other countries are  given conditions in which they can truly become American. But even when you learn the language, they still treat you like shit for having an accent. It’s also tied with certain races and nationalities, because no one has a problem with French, Italian, English, Irish, or Spanish (from Spain) accents. It’s so SEXY!!! But when someone from Dominican Republic or Somalia or India or Vietnam speaks..all of a sudden it’s necessary that they are told that they need to go back to their country! What’s even worse is when black people aid in this discrimination by saying that certain people need to know English before they come to this country. Stop aiding the system and being aggressive toward immigrant groups!

Vlog #10 – 7/28/14

This country along with many European countries (like France) have been actively aggressive against the Muslim community. Middle Eastern terrorists and their actions shouldn’t impact millions of people who only look like them. It doesn’t only impact those who are Muslim, but also Hindu and Sikh. It’s horrible how many lives have been taken and scarred after 9/11 of people who themselves have love for the United States as everyone else. It hurt Muslims in same way it hurt Christians to see so many lives be taken. Even in France where they are banning the Hijab and Burqa. You can see that the world seems to hate Muslims for simply looking like an image that they have labeled dangerous. In some instances it’s not even about being Muslim, because many Hindus and Sikhs are targeted as well. It’s just about being brown. You’re identified as a certain race that all looks the same to them, and that hijab on you just helped them to faster identify you as someone they wish to discriminate against. Someone they wish to hate. Someone they want to kill. This isn’t fair. Muslims have had to reprogram themselves to take pride in their religion because society constantly paints such a negative image of such a peaceful religion. We lose sight of the fact also that this country was built off of white Christian radicals who have and still are killing, oppressing, and raping their way to the top. No I will not fear Muslims or anyone else who is a different religion to me, because to be a real Christian means to have love for everyone. Muslims are our family just as every other type of religious group. It’s time to act like it. By the way FBI has recorded terrorist activity as the higher percentage being white. But the news won’t tell you that.

Vlog #11 – 7/28/14

Cultural Appropriate sickens me. First white cultures like in America and in Europe tell us that our cultures are inferior, and then they pick out the pieces that they like the most and change it to a meaning that better suits them. An example I’ve mention is how they’ve changed the meaning of Rastafari in order to devalue the message of it all. Many appropriaters have no want to actually learn about the culture only to take what they want from it and move on. If you’re going to take something from a culture, understand it’s background, and respect it in terms of how that cultural group uses it. What’s worse is that it’s not to be framed as a “white people” problem but that people of color in general also carry out this disrespect for other people’s culture. I’ve heard people say “I want an indian themed wedding” and they have Ganesh sitting on tables. They think so exotic. No you idiot it’s religious and you’re not Hindu. And if you’re a Christian it’s suppose to be against our religious to worship idols. But nooooo…..”it’s so exotic and cooool!!” People need to fully understand the cultures that they decide to bite off. You shouldn’t disrespect them or anything their involved in.

Vlog #12 – 7/28/14

This is the end. What I’ve learned is that we need to be the change that we want to see in the world. Everyone always says this, but in a deeper sense.. we need to create our own community where we support and uplift each other. And anybody not with the move need to get out of the way of progress! 🙂
