7/15/14 – Get It Together Bollywood!
I honestly feel like India is still under the control of the British concerning the movie industry. There simply isn’t enough actors and actresses that are brown, medium, or dark skinned in the industry. It seems they love to bring people in who are closer to white, with compromising features that could possibly pass for white as well. Hrithik Roshan is a prime example. He is an extremely beautiful man. Perfect but he’s practically a pretty white boy that can speak many dialects of Hindi. Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgan are the darkest that I know of in the industry and THEY AREN’T EVEN DARK! Lawd av mercy. There are little girls watching these movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Khabi Khusi Khabi Gham and are unable to fully identify with the actresses. Many will grow with a complex concerning their skin color. Their ideas concerning skin color is so skewed. Even what is fair isn’t always fair enough.
7/13/14 – Dougla Baybuhhsss
Correcting the blackness in the next generation is a thing. Marrying up in race because your kids will have nice hair and complexion is another sign that our colonizer is still present among us.
7/13/14 – Masculinity Exaggerated
Being a man means having lots of women, having money, or even power. However, when does it mean taking care of your children or being faithful. When it comes to gender in Guyana, men are always afforded excuses. A woman could have gone through hell and back but still have to be condemned with negative labels, meanwhile a man will be afforded the “That’s how all men are..” or “His parents didn’t get to raise him right, so is he mother to blame!” Men are deemed bodies that can’t help themselves, whereas women always have a choice and if they make the wrong one, they must face the consequences.
7/5/14 – Rastafari is…..smoking weed?
Rastafari is a deeper understanding of who we are and not who we were told to be. It is seeing the world as it is and not as they try to portray it as…
7/2/14 – Not Guyanese Enough America is allowed the power to depict themselves as never ending wealth, and to hide the fast increasing poverty. They can advertise freedom and equality for all, and forget to mention racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. This puts them in a high place for many countries. With me being Guyanese, I sometimes feel like it’s my being in a place so wonderful, that gives feelings of “You’re Not Guyanese. You don’t even know what it’s like to really be Guyanese!” I guess it’s because of the money tree in my backyard that prevents me from being fully accepted as a West Indian. And at the same time not be fully accepted as an American. Where should I go then? Where is my place, in which I will fully be accepted? Or does it not exist? 6/30/13 – Blacks v. Indians [Songs :] Devindra Pooran – Guyana Is A Paradise Our colonizers would prefer us to be separated, instead of uniting and growing to our greatness. There has been a lot progress in Guyana, but just as other countries in the world there is still change needed. Meanwhile, we have to take pride in who we are as a nation
