Season 1 Vlogs – What is power? How does power function? What are the relationships between power and social life?
Vlog #1 – 6/29/14
Power functions in a place of being beneficial and also oppressive. It is owned by those at the top, the power elite. They sometimes share that power with some groups to create the appearance of power being a thing attainable by anybody. This isn’t always the case. Watch more to see this more broadly explained.

Many of us feel we have a limit as to how far we would go concerning life. However, for many there is no limit, there’s no feeling as towards taking a life that you did not give. I am completely devastated at how there is little to no regard for life with many people through out history and even today. To be capable of such good things, man has been responsible for such travesties unimaginable to my own mind’s eye. Watch to see how I go into deeper discussion.

Vlog #3 – 7/5/13
Poverty is something is placed in society as being completely a person’s fault. Of course we all have the choice to choose our actions wisely, however we live in a country whose economic system is consistently breeding poverty through images of achievement and wealth that are often unattainable for many. Watch and hear as I go in depth with this discussion.

Vlog #4 – 7/15/14
Celebrities are put before as a way to depict a reality that completely false and often enough unattainable. The make us feel that our lives are not good enough and they just need to change. Having those red bottom heels will mean that I have the appearance of wealth. It’s all so superficial, meanwhile we put people (who don’t deserve it all!) in places of importance and power, so that they can feed us more noise and nonsense, that does nothing for us.

Vlog #5 – 7/17/14
Black is constantly put in a place of negativity by those in control of the images before us. They also control the images portrayed of different races across the world. So people in China or India or Mexico understand what a black American is like based off of what is portrayed in the news, music videos, movies, etc. This creates difficulties for people whose race is indeed black but their nationality is not American. I don’t wish to speak for anyone else, but I find personally that I don’t want to be tied to the negative portrayals of black people in America. I know that all black people are not like that, but I just would rather emphasize my culture so as to also emphasize the better values and mentalities that I was raised with in comparison to that black man that played a thug in that movie or that black woman who was in the news that spoke uneducated with 5 million colors of weave in her hair. I fully understand that the media purposely chooses what images to show of us to make us look like a fool or a criminal. I know that black Americans are very much so educated, have good values, and uplifting mentalities. But I would rather not be placed with that black girl at Walmart who came out in her satin cap, pajamas, and house slippers. I am trying to save myself. So yes I am black, but I am also West Indian. I mention about dating and marrying Hispanic, but it would be the exact same thing with dating and marrying Indian (which is what is expected of me). I would have to emphasize my 1/4 Indianess even more so that his parents wouldn’t feel like they got the short end of the stick. Even growing up I felt uncomfortable around Far East Asian people, because I felt like they just felt the worst concerning me. I would emphasize my manners at all times, because obviously I was that black kid who had no real parents to teach me respect or manners. “I’m so sorry, sir. Excuse me” I mean I feel like I have to apologize for who I am. And that’s complete bullshit. But I don’t know how to stop doing that 🙁
