Comments: Basically, all six search engines produced similar/same results. The biggest difference is that the CDC articles were only included in the Google and the Yahoo results. I am a fan of our hometown Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and would prefer their content over Hofstra University (no reflection intended against Hofstra). I would avoid both Yahoo & Dogpile as they are fraught with advertising, with Yahoo in the lead for most unrelated content. If I am searching for scholarly articles about autism, do I really care that some guy stitched up a copy of the dress from “Beauty and the Beast” for a marriage proposal prop? Yahoo claims that nugget is “Autism Scholarly News.” Dogpile’s worst offense was all the ad content dispersed within and formatted to look like search results. I know all search engines have ad content. That is how they get paid. All I ask is that it is easily recognized as an advertisement and not results I intend to peruse. Google still gets my vote… until someone can tell me why they shouldn’t.

Unit 2 Planning For Success

Planning for Success

  1.  Think about why you are in school. This is your motivation. Want to earn more money? Learn a new skill? Become more proficient in  your job? Remind yourself! It will be easier to run the gamut if you keep your eyes on the prize. Attitude is everything. If you try to  convince yourself a class is too hard or not worth it, you are setting yourself up for failure and disappointment.
  2.  Establish a schedule and do your best to stick to it. Block times for study, including adequate time to complete lengthier or more  difficult assignments. Remember that life often interferes with best intentions. You can never plan for sickness or an accident, computer failures or an impromptu party. If your work is ahead of schedule, it allows for more flexibility.
  3.  Be kind to yourself. Get plenty of sleep, eat well and exercise to keep those brain cells in good working order! Reward yourself for a task completed or a job well done.
  4. If all else fails, review number 1. Remember why you are here.

Assignment 3: Tool Inventory

Tool Inventory
1. Task 2. Tools  3. Reason
You have to lead an online presentation on the contents of your history term paper. Presbee, Prezi or Powerpoint These applications are user friendly and easy to share with multiple viewers.  It is easy to incorporate text and images and share them with multiple devices.
The final exam of your economics course is coming up and you need to collect all of your (and hopefully your classmates’) online resources for a study guide

PBWorks or Wikispaces

Dropbox

PBWorks and Wikispaces are 2 of the easiest tools to use for collaborative works. Classmates can fully participate which would likely lead to better cooperation. Dropbox is one of the most universally used and also easy to access from a variety of devices.
You need to create an interactive tour of Berlin as an assignment for your study abroad program.

 Slidedog

Presbee, Prezi

Slidedog allows user to incorporate from a vast array of platforms, easily accessed from most devices and offers great interactivity. Prezi and Presbee are also good choices for their ease of use and polished results.
You and a group of your classmates have been asked to do a collaborative research project on how Facebook has affected the social habits of young adults.  PBWorks or Wikispaces  These two are my go to tools whenever I want to work on a group project. It is so easy for the entire group to work towards a completed project and everyone’s input is readily available and easily modified.

Just call me GG

I love the beginning of a new term, and introductions especially, because it gives me an opportunity to talk about my favorite subjects. No…not me! I am a proud great-grandmother who loves nothing better than to talk about my 5 year old ggboy, who I am raising. We moved to Atlanta from south Georgia because the autism services he needed were not available in our rural area. He is everything to me and has made great progress since our move in 2015.

I am a (almost) 60 year old widow who has returned to school to learn as much about autism and related learning disorders as possible. While I am gathering said information, it simply makes good sense to complete the college degree I began in 1986. I am a Junior and my current major is pre-early education (but subject to frequent changes).

The path to education is often lined with detours and pitfalls, but the voyage is SO worth it! Me in a nutshell (a fitting description) – I am passionate about autism, education and politics. This class will be challenging for me. I continue to be certain that new technology is based on evil wizardry and he who must not be named is hiding in the code. Bonne chance, classmates! Don’t take a bite from the Apple!
