Kiley Reid

Kiley Reid was born in California in 1987, but raised in Tucson, Arizona from the age of 6 to 20.  She graduated from Salpointe Catholic High School and studied theater at the University of Arizona for two years before transferring to Marymount Manhattan College. She later graduated from Iowa’s Writers’ Workshop. 

Her debut novel, Such a Fun Age, was published by G. P. Putnam’s Sons, on December 31, 2019. It was longlisted for the Booker Prize in July 2020. The novel, which explores the relationship between a young black babysitter and her well-intentioned white employer, was ranked no. 3 on the New York Times hardcover fiction list.

  1. How did it feel about your very first novel being long listed for the Booker Prize?
  2. Was your novel in any way connected to your real experiences as a babysitter?
  3. I heard writer/producer Lena Waithe has the film and tv rights to the book, can you tell us how’s that coming along?
