I believe revision is the process of correcting ones’ work and editing it to add in more detail, fix errors, or even take away unnecessary details. Revision is very important to any writer as it allows them to create better works of writing. Personally, without revision my papers would lack many components and important factors. When completing a paper the first time, it’s very easy to miss simple mistakes, typos, and useless details. Revising increases your chances of catching these mistakes and correcting them. When I revise, I go through a three-step process. First, I read the paper aloud to see if I encounter any grammatical errors. Secondly, I read the paper mentally to see if it has the appropriate tone and then search for punctuation errors. Last but not least, I use Grammarly to check for any other mistakes such as passive voice ,unclear antecedents, and etc.,
Lost In The Cosmos Comparison
Lost In The Cosmos:
When reading ‘Lost In The Cosmos” by Walker Percy, I enjoyed reading how Percy switches the thoughts of suicide. Because many people are dealing with ongoing problems on the day to day basis, Percy understands how one can easily become depressed. Depression in this excerpt is described as an illness and it’s only cure is suicide. While others may suggest other ways to fix depression besides death, Percy notes that depression can be reoccurring for a person, almost making them miserable. In this sense, if not interpreted correctly, some people may believe that Percy is telling depressed individuals that the only way they can overcome their depression is by killing themselves. However, Percy is simply stating that those who do deal with depression, should enjoy life knowing that suicide is an option. Not saying that they should commit the act. While someone who doesn’t consider suicide deals with they’re daily stressors and problems, they may grow tired and feel as if life is a burden to them. Whereas, someone who knows they have the option of suicide will not feel burdened or trapped knowing that they have nothing to lose. Giving this person a feeling of freedom and will to do as they please.
XXXTentacion:
When I think of suicide I think of XXXTentacion, an upcoming music artist mostly known for his loud and hardcore music. However many people who had no knowledge of him before this era in his music, may not know that X dealt with depression and suicidal thoughts. In many of his songs, he explains the thoughts he has and reasons for them. He seems to understand his options, however this doesn’t particularly doesn’t lead him to living a life with joy but a reckless one. Possibly because he knows that he does have the option of suicide. This is why when reading Percy’s excerpt, X came to mind due to his similar thinking.
Capital Punishment Research Source.
Mitchell, Jonathan F. “Capital Punishment and The Courts.” Harvard Law Review 130.7 (2017): p.269-275. EBSCOhost. Web. 27 September 2017
In this article, Mitchell speaks on whether capital punishment truly deters crimes. Because capital punishment is such an opinionated topic, it is difficult to determine whether it is an ethical approach to delinquency. While some people may believe that capital punishment serves justice, others may oppose this point of view. Mitchell begins by expressing and showing the many questions and directions that this topic can lead to, philosophically and empirically. Mitchell explains how capital punishment creates a big risk for the government as they continue to use such measures for concluding cases. He also provides sources that can be referred to, to compare contrasting opinions and get information on cases that involve forms of capital punishment. This source will work great in my essay, as it gives me many ideas to choose from and discuss. The purpose of the article will be to provide examples and information on why capital punishment should be avoided or banned all together and what should be considered in a process as such.
Paradise Lost Comparison
When first reading the excerpt of Paradise Lost by John Milton, it was difficult for me to interpret, however after discussing it in class, my understanding of the story came to be despite Milton’s use of wicked actions and ideals in the story. It explains the relationship of the unholy trinity, Satan who takes the role of a king, Sin who takes the role of Satan’s daughter and mother of Death, and Death who takes the role of being the son of Satan and Sin. As the story progresses Satan and Death battle over who will be the one to rule. However, Satan realizes that his death cannot be avoided and he will soon be put to an end. Satan then takes the fatherly figure and promises to Death that he will have unlimited access to the world of sinners and he can kill as he chooses. Which in irony, still ends in death.
This reminds of a modern-day manga called Deathnote. In this manga, a young teenage male, named Light discovers a book which has to the ability to cause immediate death for those whose name is written in it. Light believes this opportunity gives him the power to restore balance in the world by killing those who have committed crimes. However, once again death is inevitable. Light believes he can rule over and challenges Ryuk (the death god). Almost similar to Satan and Death’s battle. Light forgets that he doesn’t hold as much power as Ryuk who could kill him instantly. Light dies throughout the manga and shows how Paradise Lost and Deathnote relate. Those who do bad things even with some intentions of doing good will certainly be punished in some way.
Peer Review Opinion
Last Friday’s peer review wasn’t exactly useful to me due to the fact that it lacked a good structure. When I say structure, I believe it would’ve helped me revise my paper better, with the use of a printed worksheet that points out specific things to correct such as use of punctuation, grammatical errors, and etc. This allows for easy exchanging for individuals and helps guide students when reviewing their peer’s paper. Last semester, for our English Composition 1 class, we received sheets to inform students what to look for when revising over these papers. This way helped me better and gave me something to refer to.
I Guess… “Haters Gonna Hate” *shrugs*
When looking at pictures we tend to interpret them in different ways depending on what is depicted. Visual context plays a tremendous role in this and often has the ability to change the way we view things emotionally and mentally.
Meme #1: The first meme is Kermit The Frog meme, a very popular background that circulated the internet for quite a while. This meme implies that no matter what negative thoughts another person may think, this person will remain unbothered and will continue minding their own business. Basically, ignoring the other person regardless of what opinions he may have and continuing his day as if the other person doesn’t even exist.

Meme #2: In this meme, our 46th POTUS, gives off a shrug. Viewers may sense a nonchalant vibe emitting from this picture. As a big influential figure in our political world, of course there are always two sides. The ones who favor our former president and the ones who do not. This meme seems like it is more than likely geared towards those who don’t favor him, and gives them a message that he doesn’t care to control those who don’t care for him and he will continue to do his job, with or without them.

Meme #3: Last but not least is this gif/meme of a well known music artist, Kid Cudi, dancing next to the phrase ‘Haters gone hate” This gives it a more joyful and happy vibe to this phrase. He seems to be smiling and enjoying himself and not worried about who may be watching or what they may think about him.

Song About Death
Song: XXXTentacion- In The End
XXXTentacion’s song “In the End” like many of this artists’ songs, discuss and attempt to help those who can relate to certain subjects of sadness and death. Like some people today, this artist faces depression from a series of tragic events and hardships he has faced growing up as a teenager. When the song starts, a melodic tune played from a piano gives a hint to listeners that the song is associated with a story. As the song progresses, he begins to speak and explain that when his time comes or when he decides to commit suicide, he will not be afraid. He will not hesitate to end his life without regret. He states ” no one here knows, my intent” meaning that even though he is surrounded by others who notice him and possibly interact with him, no one truly knows what goes on in his mind and his plans to end his life. Overall, I believe that this song is one that should not be taken lightly and should make others aware that suicide is real and a growing problem in our society and hopefully even encourage them to take appropriate measures to help prevent it..
