Streamlined Quiz Timing and Setups
As instructors, we know that creating quizzes and managing assessments can be time-consuming and sometimes complicated. However, with the latest updates to iCollege Quiz Timing and Setup, we are thrilled to introduce a more efficient and user-friendly process that will simplify your quiz creation experience starting Friday, July 28th.
Simplified Quiz Time Limit
Gone are the days of navigating through various time limit options. Now, you have the power to decide whether to set a time limit and specify the duration in minutes. Just click “Set time limit,” enter the quiz length, and voilà! Depending on your preference, you can choose from the following options:
- Automatically Submit quiz attempt: If you prefer quizzes to be automatically submitted when the time limit is exceeded.
- Flag as time limit exceeded and allow the learner to continue working: Perfect for giving students extra time even after the time limit is reached.
- Do nothing, the time limit is not enforced: If you wish to keep things flexible without enforcing any time limit on the quiz.
With these updated settings, you can now set up quizzes more efficiently, customizing time limits to suit the specific requirements of the quiz and your students.
Removing Obsolete Quiz Timing Options
In our quest to make your quiz creation process smoother, options like the Grace Period and the Allow the student to continue working but automatically score the attempt as zero have been removed. These settings were previously intended to provide additional time for students who manually saved questions and submitted their own quiz attempt. However, with automatic saving and submission now in place, these options are no longer necessary.
Quizzes that previously used these settings will automatically be updated to the following new behaviors:
- A quiz that previously had a grace period now uses the time limit set on the quiz.
- A quiz that previously scored a quiz at 0 when the time limit was exceeded now sets the quiz to automatically submit the student’s quiz attempt.
Synchronous Quizzing for Enhanced Control
We recognize the importance of creating a standardized and controlled assessment environment. With our new updates, you can now set up synchronous quizzes that start and end at the same time for all students. This setup emulates a classroom exam experience and better supports medium-high stakes quizzes.
Quiz Taking Improvements for Students
We understand that reducing student anxiety during assessments is crucial for optimal performance. Hence, we’ve introduced new features to enhance the quiz experience for your students:
Show/Hide Timer
Now, students have the freedom to choose whether they want to see the quiz timer. They can easily hide or reveal it by hovering over or clicking the timer, and their preference will be remembered for future quizzes.
Timer Warnings
Because the timer can now be hidden, and to help students better manage their time, timer warnings have been implemented throughout the quiz. This ensures students can prepare for auto-submission or manually submit their quiz before it gets flagged for exceeding the time limit. Warnings will appear based on the quiz’s length, providing students with timely reminders.
Easy Access to Quiz Information
The final update makes it more convenient for students to access important instructions and quiz details. Now, students can review Quiz Information, instructions, and details while the quiz is in progress. The new Quiz Information link, located under the page links, enables seamless access without leaving the quiz. This improvement streamlines the quiz-taking experience and ensures students have quick access to relevant information during the assessment.
These updated Quiz Timing and Setup features offer you a more straightforward and efficient quiz creation process. Your students will benefit from enhanced quiz experiences, reduced anxiety, and better time management during assessments.
