Several upgrades and enhancements are coming to iCollege on Saturday, June 8. Please see the list below for full details:

Webex — New, Modern Webex Integration

The new Webex integration provides an improved interface for scheduling meetings and office hours in iCollege. In addition, you can now connect Webex Teams to iCollege for more student collaboration opportunities. Please note that any previously scheduled meetings will need to be recreated. Click here for more information on using this new integration.

VoiceThread – Machine-based Auto-captions on New Videos

As of June 5, any new videos that are added into a VoiceThread will automatically receive machine-based captioning. These captions are editable so that accuracy can be improved as needed. Click here for more information on editing captions on a VoiceThread video.

Any existing videos will need to be copied before they are captioned. Click here for information on copying videos in VoiceThread.

Rubrics – Improved Rubric Creation Experience

To improve on the new rubric creation experience, rubric creation has been changed to a single-page workflow. Clicking New in the Rubrics tool immediately brings the user to the rubric authoring page. In addition, the previous Rubric Tool options Properties and Levels and Criteria are now condensed into a single Edit option when editing an existing rubric.

 Assignments — Anonymous Marking

To avoid unconscious bias in the grading and feedback process, instructors can configure assignments to use anonymous learner names. When the feature is turned on, instructors only see an anonymized learner name on the assignment. Instructors can only publish anonymous marking using Publish All Feedback, to prevent identifying learners through selective anonymous marking feedback submission.

Instructors can set up anonymous marking when creating an assignment. Instructors can also enable anonymous marking for assignment submission folders after they are created, but cannot disable the feature once submissions have been made. Instructors that use Turnitin can only enable Anonymous Marking in an existing assignment submission folder if no assignment submissions have been made.

Instructors can publish feedback without completing feedback for all submissions. Clicking Publish All Feedback displays a confirmation dialog box indicating that some submissions will be published without feedback. After Publish All Feedback is selected, the user names associated with anonymous submissions are revealed to instructors.

Assignments – Adding In-Line Comments and Annotations

Instructors can now use the built-in annotation toolbar in Assignments to provide contextual feedback with highlighting, freehand drawing, shapes, and associated commenting. This allows instructors to complete all their evaluation and feedback work directly in Assignments, without the need to use any external tools or applications. Annotations remain editable until the feedback is published by the instructor. If instructors want to add additional feedback after publishing, they can update the annotations and re-publish them.

Kaltura – Kaltura Capture released

As announced previously, Kaltura CaptureSpace has been upgraded to Kaltura Capture! This new tool includes all the features from previous versions but has a simplified interface to make screen recordings easier than ever. If you haven’t already, you will need to download the new version. For more information, please review the knowledge base article for Kaltura Capture.

If you would like more information about these upgrades or would like assistance with using them in your courses, please reach out to the CETL Learning Technology staff at your campus.
