Material: Wire and Two Beads
For project two, I had to create a newly discovered insect and/or bug that was an amalgamation of other bugs that had well-thought-out functionality. It was made 90% out of wire with 10% being another material that was added to the wire sculpture.
I designed a Spiny Spiral Whip-tailed Mantis, that had aspects of a spiny orb weaver spider, a whip-tail scorpion, and a praying mantis. My creepy crawlies background is that he came from another world and was alien in many senses but shared similarities to other bugs here on Earth. The ultimate predator was large and had claws and spikes. It also had great defense mechanisms like bouncy feet and spirals that confused both prey and a potential predator. It was contrasted using the thicker wire to make a basic exoskeleton in the shape of the mantis and the back end, along with the feet while the thinner wire was used to create details, supports, and aspects like the claws/arms, and the tail and antennae.
