Created Spring Semester 2023 for Three-Dimensional Art
Medium: Paper, Glue, Vegetable Oil.
These pieces were created with various techniques such as hand cutting, vegetable oil to create transparency, and wetting, wrinkling, and crumbling paper. These sculptures reflect on the ideas of the transformative qualities of paper while being a fragile item and how that is reflected in life in general. This led me to focus in on loss, death, and grief. Many of these hold pieces of my own life, as I lost both of my parents in the last few years and it completely transformed my life. I became aware of how fragile my parent’s bodies actually were, and how fragile everyone else can be. One piece, The Room, is a representation of walking into my momma’s room for the first time after she suddenly passed. The Lungs are in honor of my da, who passed from lung cancer. The Heart for my mom, as she passed from Heart Disease. The Swan and The Felled Tree focus on other creatures or living things’ fragility and death. The Reaper and Hourglass are representatives of Time and Death itself. That Hollow Pointy Feeling focuses on the abstract visualization of grief.
Below I added a playlist of songs that I included for my sketchbook layout for the project.
