For this particular project, I was tasked with the job of a scientist who found a new species of insect.

In reality, I had to create a mixed-species insect only out of wire. The process for this project was incredibly tedious. I began the project researching insects like butterflies, dragonflies and even beetles, to study their wings and body shapes for inspiration.

I sketched out a few ideas that I ended up hating, but I pushed through and created an insect anyway. I added and messed with it, until I realized I hated it as well. At the last minute I completely changed my design and just went with my instincts. The final result I am much more proud of.

This particular project taught me to be patient. I rarely work with wire because it’s very easy to make a mistake, and I’m kind of a perfectionist. At the end of the day, I did enjoy the process despite my frustrations and lack of patience.
