I watched a movie called “just mercy.” The movie came out at the beginning of 2020, and it about racism. Racism has been going around for decades, and it is still going on. As I watched the movie, I learned many things about how difficult black people’s lives were and are. It was about Walter McMillian, a black man who was working and got arrested for the murder of a white little girl name Ronda Morrison. As time passes, Bryan Stevenson, a Harvard law graduate, travels to Alabama, hoping to help fight for the one who cannot afford proper legal representation. When the incident happened, Walter was at home with his family. Half of the black men that were arrested were sentenced to die by electric chair. Once Bryan found out that Walter was innocent, he started to look deep down on his case and determine what actually happened that day. Walter’s family and the black community in Monroeville supported him as well. When EJI claims that Walter is innocent, he drops all charges against Walter, and Walter was released after six years on death row. When it comes to skin color, we tend to judge them quickly, even in the community that I grew up to. For example, when I was back in Nepal, I have been told that people from different countries were bad and came to harm us. Racism can cause many things, such as killing yourself, mantle health issues, feeling anxious, unhappy, etc. Many students who experience racism might be afraid of going to school and college; they might have some trouble making friends. Teachers also experience racism. Sometimes, they can lose confidence in their ability to teach and the way they speak. So I think it very important to teach people to respect others as well as themselves.
