ABOUT US
Welcome to our new site!
2015 was a whirlwind year.
We started off the year with #NEWBLACKHISTORY Week to celebrate Black History Month. Our events included a spoken word night (Shattering the Lens: 2015 in Review), a student forum on what on what happens when made aware of your blackness(50 Shades of Black), and we concluded with a Q&A panel featuring community organizers and activists (Blacktivism 101 at Emory University).
The momentum of February allowed our former President AmberNechole Hart, and former Vice President Ivie Osaghae to travel to the King Center to hear a lecture by Dr. Cornell West. Later that month,we travel to Kennesaw State University to sit in the presence of Angela Y. Davis. After both talks, we came back and channeled their words of wisdom into making BSA the best it could be.
The heat was on to exceed the excellence and momentum of February’s events. So, we came back bigger than ever with BSA Week 2015. BSA week began with a discussion on Black sexuality (Blacker the Berry), we relaxed our bodies and minds to the sounds of trap music during ouryoga night, helped students find internship and volunteer opportunities at our leadership fair and ended the school week with a movie night. That Saturday we went into the community and bagged groceries for Atlanta’s families and lifted our spirits with a sermon at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Our goal was to cover every aspect of living and well-being in the Black community; we achieved that goal while fostering connections with so many of you.
Now, with all the great things we have achieved we want to continue to build a lasting legacy at GSU and we want you to be involved. We want to hear your ideas, share your passions, and address your thoughts by defining a space to explore who you are. But BSA is more than voicing your opinions; you have to get involved.BSA isn’t just another student organization; we are a COLLECTIVE. In order to excel to the next level we need passionate people with the desire to push the boundaries and make people listen.
