Benefits

Surprisingly, what many would not assume, gaming is a spectator sport. No less than any other sports. A well-known MOBA game, League of Legends, had an average of 4.2 million viewers between the 73 World Championship games last year. League of Legends alone may not seem that dynamic, however, do not forget, League of Legends is just one of the many games that are streamed. COD, CS:GO, DOTA 2, and other mainstream games do not falter when it comes to the viewership of League of Legends. Combining all games, eSports is just as popular as the NFLs. The viewership of eSports are still increasing to this day.

Most of it can be attributed to broadcasters such as Yahoo, ESPN, BBC, and other publishers campaigning and advertising eSports titles. The biggest contributor however, would be Twitch TV. Now own by Amazon, Twitch TV is a platform for gamers to broadcast themselves live, playing video games. This platform not only serves as an medium between the audiences and eSports but also to the pro players and to potential pros. Twitch TV serves not only as a way to garner fans but also serves as additional revenue for professional players, as well as a starting point for those who want to be recognized in the professional gaming industry.
