When you click on something, and you can’t tell that you are on that tab or link after clicking the button, that means that “there are no edges.” Edges refers to being able to distinguish between a button or link clicked and not clicked compared to others around it on the page.

Don’t over-crowd the page with too much wording. It takes away the interest of the audience and makes finding information harder. In addition, adding graphics and videos to a page may result in taking longer for the page to load.

“Breadcrumb trail” is at the top of the page under the navigation bar. It shows and links to the pages you previously were on within that website. Say you start from at the home page, click the second tab on the navigation bar, and that button had a subsection, the breadcrumb trail will show each link you clicked, one after the other.

1. From the ted talk: 10 tips for better slide decks, I learned that you should recreate simple graphs or charts before putting them on your slides. This allows for you to have more control of the graph/chart, the colors, typography and more.

2. Garr Reynolds taught be how to and when to properly use pie charts in power points. I learned that to limit the slice to 4-6, as well as showing the most important percentages in the chart I should enlarge that slide of change the color so something noticeable and attention grabbing.

3. Garr Reynolds also taught me to the “B” key will make the slide on a powerpoint presentation go blank. This allows for the audience’s attention to be placed on you, and then when you want to audience to see the slide again, you just press the “B” key again.

44 Resume Writing Tips

Last summer I began to create my resume, I sent it to multiple people to gather feedback on it before I sent it out to employers. I received the same comments back that there were many irrelevant information, it was too wordy, and it I needed to change the wording/format. If I had this article handy, 44 Resume Writing Tips, it would have made creating my resume easier. I would have known exactly what to write and how to write it. The tips that were most relevant and helpful to me were, “know the purpose of your resume,” “avoid negativity,” “use action words,” and to ” get someone else to review your resume.” This article really helps to set up a resume, it answers all the basic questions one has when starting to create their own.

I always knew that there was APA, MLA, and AMA formatting,  but I never hear of Chicago and Turabian formatting. I learned that Chicago style citation is used for “books, magazines, newspapers, etc. in the corporate world.” In addition, Turabian style citation is used for “general-subject citations.”

The second thing I learned about academic citation is that there is a software besides EndNote and Microsoft Word to help with creating a bibliography. Zotero just like EndNote can “collect, manage, and cite” sources that you find online. It automatically updates itself so keep track of your sources.

Most of my teachers taught me that if you aren’t sure if you’re plagiarizing or not, just cite it anyways to be safe. With the GSU tutorials, i’ve learned that if it is common knowledge, that not only you would know but other would too, such as Obama is the current president, you don’t have to cite it.

Teachers have religiously taught students how not to plagiarize since the first time we first began writing papers. I’ve learned the does and don’ts of writing a paper, how to cite a paper and making sure that there is always a reference or works cited page at the end. The biggest lesson I was taught was that when in doubt, put it in quotes and cite it. Acadia University interactive tutorial was more of a review of what i’ve learned in the past years, especially in English 1101 and 1102. This is definitely a good tool, but GSU’s English 1102 curriculum and textbook really helped me more than this interactive tutorial did.

There is always one person in a group board or page that will post off topic. “Hey check out my new mixtape!,” “Check out this funny video!,” “Look what I just bought, what you do guys think of this?,” these are just some of the most common posts that some people post on group boards and pages that often have nothing to do with the actual group. I personally always found it annoying, and now I understand that it not just common sense to not post off topic, but it s a rule of netiquette. By taking the Netiquette Challenge, I learned that some people are doing more than just posting about irrelevant information when posting off topic on a specific group page, they are also violating the rule of netiquette. I see this happening too often, where people want the attention or are trying to become known by posting in any group and page that they have access to.

App 1: Course off

Courseoff connects to your school’s class scheduling system, so you can choose what class, teacher and lecture time you are registered for. The app links up your class schedule with your calendar app on Apple phones, which allows you to have your schedule easily accessible without having to manually look up your schedule every time, don’t have to write down your schedule, and if you forget what time your class is, you can just drag down your top bar on your phone or just open the app. It is also color coded, making it easier to understand and follow when reading it on your calendar. The app is also available online, so if you want to quickly see your schedule or find it easier to add or fix it, you can do it online and it will sync to your phone.

App 2: Venmo

As a college student myself, I find myself using venmo a lot. Whether it is to pay back my friends for dinner, going out, or even my family member buying me something and we split the cost. Venmo connects your credit and debit cards to the app and extract the money from your account when you request to send money to a friend for something. It’s quick and takes two seconds to send money, as well as cashing out money people send you. There is no hassle and the money is directly deposited into your account once you cash out. In addition, there is a time line on your page on the app that allows you to easily remember and track your spending. If you forget if you paid your friend or not, you can easily check your app to see.

Agresti gathers information from numerous websites and other resources in order to create a page outlining different sections and ideas about a specific topic.

Purpose: The purpose of this site was created in order to “research and publish verifiable facts about the leading public policy issues of our time,” by providing facts that are unbiased, accurate, and hard facts not half-truths.

Authority: The original publisher of this website is Walter Annenberg, it is now run by Brooks Jackson and many others. Although the articles do not show who has written that specific article, the site does list the many employees of that work to establish and provide for the website. www.factcheck.org is run by three sources; Annenberg Foundation, individual members of the public, and from APPC.

Accuracy: The writers and creators seem to have great knowledge on public policies and what of course, be as unbiased as one can. There are multiple writers, editors and directors each set with the mission to gather information directly and publish articles out that is relevant to politics as well as what is happening currently. Each person that is part of the website is listed, but not given direct affiliation to whom wrote each article.

Purpose: factcheck.org is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. It was created by Walter Annenberg whose mission was to establish a website covering public policy at the local, state and federal levels, which continues today on this website by numerous writers who have experience and knowledge about politics.

Each search engine had more similarities than differences. Within the top 5 results atleast 3 items were the same for each search engine regardless of being an individual engine or a meta-search engine. However there were clearly more advertisements around the Yahoo! results page compared to all the others, which goes to show the approach taken in indexing results. Google clearly indexes the results based on the users’ response, most hits(user clicks). Yahoo! really relies on advertisements to focus their results, which is only really helpful when searching for things to buy; but is not ideal when researching and finding information. In my case, you can see that Yahoo! had more store/ecommerce results and google had more informational results.

The meta-search engines all looked at the same individual search engines, so the results were almost exactly the same for each. In my findings, the first result in each meta-search came up were exactly the same, with Wikipedia. Furthermore 4:5 items were the same across each meta-search engine, proving that they are all looking at the same individual engines.

1. Keep a planner with reminders whether it is physically written down or on your phone

Constantly track your work daily so you will never miss a due date. I have to physically write down my due dates and what I have to do in order to remember them. This tool really helps, and will keep your grade up just by submitting assignments on time!

2. Do work little by little each day instead of at the last minute

By spreading out work each day, you will be able to accomplish assignments on time. In addition, there will be less room for mistakes and you will get a better understanding of the topic.

3. Use as many resources as possible including the professor and classmates

What better resources are there to use than those that are in the same position as you or the one that has given you the assignment personally? By using your classmates for questions and ideas you can successfully complete an assignment on time, correctly and easily. Don’t know what the assignment is even asking you to do? The professor can tell you exactly what it is asking for. These two resources are the best, most reliable sources around to help.
