The first piece found for this project is the self-portrait. In the past, I have had a hard time doing self-portraits of myself because it is hard trying to implement my glasses. Upon starting on the big, grey paper, I practiced on a separate sheet of paper. After I got a general idea I began to start on the final paper. While I did this I used a variety of materials such as compressed charcoal, Conte crayons, and even charcoal pencils. This piece to me proved to be challenging because it took a lot of work and I am at times a pretty impatient person. In the end, I created a perfected masterpiece with minor flaws such as my glasses lens being uneven.
The last piece for this project was the skull drawing. This drawing was meant to teach the concepts of value as well as figure and composition. In this piece, we had to draw four skulls all facing different directions. The challenge came when it came to capturing the overall value of each skull and trying to portray the feathers on the pirate hat in one. It took me going back and redoing the skulls to help me master the overall concept of this project.
