The second part of Project III was to find out what the words quiet meant to me and to draw an object that fits that description. The goal of this piece was to create an 8″ by 10″ piece that explored the concept of drawing in an additive process that goes beyond line and erasing. Upon thinking of what quiet meant to me, an image of a Buddha statue I had at home instantly popped into my head. From there, I knew that that statue was the perfect definition for me. Next, I began to practice sketching this piece as soon as I got home from classes. Once I felt comfortable, the process of creating the final piece took place. In the final piece, I used compressed charcoal, charcoal pencils, and an ebony pencil. Although the steps flowed freely, the beginning felt a little uneasy. I felt unsure of how the piece would turn out, but it started to look better the more I continued to work on it. In the end, I quickly got the hang of things and created an overall exceptional piece.
